TT official 2016 WR450F mods

Recommended Posts

After buying a 2016, realizing it's different than previous WR's and finding 99% of info on the forums are for previous models, I'm starting a thread for those who have purchased or are curious and thinking about a 2016, like me, having bought a 2016 and am wondering if the page after page of free mods apply to my bike or if it's outdated info as pertaining to the 2016 or previous models. I've had a couple kind and informative guys direct me through the basic free mods on the 2016 but feel a dedicated thread is needed for those purchasing the same model knowing it's different and wanting to deservedly uncork all the EPA BS same as our previous model brothers. Just to save time and to give assistance for those who have purchased the beautiful and amazing 2016 WR, ok, admittedly, I'm bias but let's share some info. Just because you have rode your 5th WR this season doesn't mean everyone knows what a "tea kettle" is or what air box cuts to do when your 2016 already has two triangular cutouts in my he corners stock. So we are counting on you veterans to share your knowledge. Please add it here, I'm sure many new owners will benefit. Thank you to you guys that have done so in another topic/thread, your direction has helped me immensely and saved me a ton of confusing comparative time. Thank you!

I don't know what previous Wr's are like but I'm about 215 and I can power wheelie in second gear pretty easy. Don't get into third much due to the rocky terrain, and my rookie skill set. Getting more comfortable with the bikes feel though and liking it quite a bit.

Come on boys this thread is a bit sad lets see your WR's and the mods.

Anyway I have begun the 11l Acerbic tank conversion from my YZF, I plan on putting an IMS dry break tank on it so i need to get this spot on, once i have it all together i will take it for a ride test it all for say 5 hours then remove everything and check the harness for rubs, water and movement etc.

so fist off i took the battery box off the back of the mud guard and stripped the harness right back to split to go to the rear, sorted out each individual diode and relay had to de-pin some to line up all the wires as they where a bit all over the show from factory, then made each diode and relays individual harness then begin to run them to better locations, see attached pictures so far.

basically I'm going to go get a power wire to run from the relay back to the battery that will be under the seat, will run a YZF rear mudguard then start putting it back together.

the main thing i still want to be able to ride it on the road so everything has to stay on and function.

ill admit there is a fair bit in it thats for sure but should be mint when done.

Any questions?

Good idea are you going to make a battery box under one of the rear side covers. Also you will need to ditch the low fuel light fitting I guess. But shouldn't need it with that nice tank.

All good mate, the Acerbic tank is of my 2015 YZ450f I want the IMS dry break as the fuelling time is reduced and it is less messy trying to open the fuel cap and fuel etc. on the run most of the races we do have 2 fuel stops each day and the fuel up time is not taken of the overall time, the IMS tank will also be a YZF tank.

If I'm not mistaken I believe the 2.5 IMS dry break tank will fit the WR250 with the battery and all the electronics in place. So it should fit the WR450 also. It's just missing the low fuel reserve fitting. http://dirthammers.com/2015/03/product-release-yz250fx-wr250f-factory-edition-tank/

Along the lines of derestricting, have any of you 2016 wr guys checked your front pipe for a cat? The euro versions are supposed to have one fitted from new.

Are you sure that's not a gasket? Do they label it as a catalytic converter? I haven't checked mine.

Yep, its definitely a small catalytic converter.

In the UK they come separately and get fitted by the dealer. Given how restricted the bikes are you guys get in the states, it might be worth checking to see if your bikes have cats fitted.
