Need help identifying a cylinder

Recommended Posts

First off want to say hello to all you guys.. Its been a long time since posting on here..

What I've ran into is a customer has brought in a 2006 YZ450f 50th Ann needing rebuilt.

As soon as I went thru the box of parts I realized that the Head was not a Yzf Head, Well, at

least not an 06 up head being that it had the Oil line manifold and Ports in the head for the oil to

reach the Head,,.Contacted the customer and he said the guy he got it from said it had blow by and he took it apart

to see what was wrong and got frustrated with it and decided to sell it.. The customer then bought a

GYTR Head that has been CNC ported and looked really nice..But then it hit me about the cylinder.

My concern is that if the Cylinder is not an 06 or newer than its not going to have the oil passage up thru the dowel holes

to enable the oil to reach the Cams.. Also what made me think about this is that the two 8mm Bolts on the

cylinder head that bolts to the cylinder go straight thru the cylinder holes and need a nut on the bottom

just like the YFZ450 cylinders do. The YZ450 cylinders 06 and up the two 8mm bolts thread down into

the cylinder..you can see the pics to understand better what I mean,,

Hoping someone on here (gray racer maybe) can help identify the cylinder I have to

be sure that it is an 06 or newer cylinder.. The person that the customer bought from told him afterwards that the origanal

head was off a 06 Wr450r.. Hence the oil lines.. Thanks in advance for any and all help guys.....

No difference.  Besides, if it were a YFZ, it would say "439cc", not "449".

Then why will the head not work with the cylinder if the cylinder is an 06-09?

I think we are both a little confused,, The cylinder Head I have is an 06 YZ450F Head

Which gets it's oiling from the bottom end up thru the cylinder oil passage.. Just needing

to be sure this cylinder I have is an 06 and up cylinder which should have the passage up thru it

for the oil to travel to the head and cams.. You saying that it is indeed an 06-09 cylinder makes me believe

it would work with the head I have.... Sorry for the confusion, im just trying to get it straight what you said

The part where you said:

...threw me off.  The post was hard to read the way it was written.  If the GYT-R head is a Gen2 head (internal oiling, 5 valve), it will work.  The bolts on the side are probably the way they are because the thread in the cylinder were stripped once, and the solution was to drill them all the way through.
