2016 WR450F ~ New Zealand

Recommended Posts

Morning, All.

Gazza from Christchurch here.

2016 WR450F ordered, due here later this month. Can't wait. Trading a '15 YZ250FX. Going with the Yamaha Racing blue/white livery as I think the retro yellow/black looks a bit naf, looks like a piece of frickin' confectionary ... also looks like a Suzuki coming along the road. Not good. Don't get me wrong, I love the old school Kenny Roberts Snr colours, but for some reason they just don't work on this bike. Discuss. ;-)

Older rider, been on superbikes for decades (Moriwaki VTR1000SP1, GSX-R1000 K7, currently on a fully restored '97 CBR1100XX ~ did all the work myself, including a motor and gearbox rebuild, only took three attempts before it stopped blowing up!).

Been off road for four years, modest intermediate skills. I will be road registering the WR and using it for 20/80 road/dirt dual purpose rides around the Southern Alps and skids up the local beaches/river beds. I have a G650GS Sertao for 80/20 road/dirt rides.

5'8", 75kg so will be lowering the scooter a tad and reworking the forks to suit. RaceTech comp and rebound gold valves and new shim stacks, billet secondary chamber housings, lighter main springs, lighter secondary pressure springs, ohlins fork oil. Yamalink, Pivotworks Shock thrust bearing and Factory Connection shock spring. Adding a Powercommander and Autotuner with Lambda sensor. FMF 4.1 Titanium can and mega bomb header. I had all of these mods on the FX and it worked perfectly for my dwarf-like legs and humble riding ability.

Stay tuned!

Hey,

Transmoto in Aussie posted up these Power Tuner Maps recently. I'll be trying these first but then loading a zero map when the Power Commander and Autotuner are installed. The PC/AT combo are a step up from the Power Tuner.

https://transmoto.com.au/mapping-matters-2016-wr450f/

I'd be keen to hear how these maps feel if anyone is running a Power Tuner.

The Autotuner plugs into the Powercommander and dynamically alters air/fuel ratio by monitoring a lambda sensor in the header (the desired AFR is set in a Rev/Throttle Position table by the user, using the Powercommander software.

You programme in your target AFR, go riding and the AT alters the fuelling as you ride, creating a temporary Trim Table. If you ride at altitude for example, the AT will adjust the fuelling accordingly, etc. If your air filter is clogged on a ride, the AT will adjust. Fit a noise suppressor for an organised ride, again AT will step in. Change pipes? Just go riding and the fuel map will be changed to suit. It's like an on-road dyno session. Get home. Did you like the way the motor ran with the new trims? Simply save the trim tables and any fuel cell that has been changed will be added to the base maps. Don't like the changes? Discard the trim table and it reverts back to the original base maps. Bloody brilliant system. I had it fitted to the FX and it was magic. Dynojet supplied me with a base AFR Target Map and I just ran with that, didn't change a thing. It only impacts the fuel table, not the ignition table. This is set separately.

Cant wait .....ive followed all of your posts regarding the 250fx thinking thats

the bike for me but being a bigger built guy i went for the 450FX.

Hey, Reedo. I looked at the 450FX but it's just too much bike for me, too racer-oriented. Also needed it plated for semi-road use.

Do you have the FX yet? Pics please!

Where do you live in En Zed?

Morning, Chaps.

My waiting pain continues. Yamaha NZ are about to finally release the '16 WR450...but wait! 'We are sorry to inform you that the bike is not ADR complaint and is not able to be road registered..." WTF? 'We could send the bikes to Australia for modification to enable them to become road registered in New Zealand' WTF? How long will this take asks Gazza. 'We are not sure, probably months' WTF?

I've asked them to sent it down now and I'll flick a bogus number plate on it, take my chances.

WTF? Averagely frickin' unimpressed with YNZ to put it mildly.

BTW I'm getting the yellow/black 60th anniversary livery. Should look pretty cool.

Patient Gaz.

Are they on meth or what Gaz!! probably eaiser just to get one sent over from Australia, you would already have it too! How much are they asking for on there?

Probably some sales guys have commissions riding on unloading those 15s. Bastards. Did you email the home office? Somebody up the foodchain might get annoyed if they find out their spiffs are keeping customers from buying a brand new bike.

Hey, Team. No more news. Corporate f@cktards. I've just asked the dealer to get it down and I'll argue the toss over road reg later. Strap on a 'plate from the Beemer and take my chances in the mean time. They are asking around NZ$15k. Soon. 8^)-
