Pro Moto Spark Arrestor End Caps

Recommended Posts

I am racing an endure next month and getting a bike ready to do that.  I know there are several work arounds to the spark arrestor issue for our bikes but I really like the Pro Moto billet end cap with screens application. They replace the old endcap with a new one that you screw on and off rather than drill out rivets and it has detachable end piece that allows you to quickly put in or take out the spark arrestor screen.  I'll be sure to locktite all the screws and bolts!

It is nicely machined and finished and engraved with an official-looking USFS Approved Spark Arrestor label.  I have not installed it yet and am wondering if anyone has.  My bike is an '06 so my kit came with two endocarps, one for each muffler.

The only potential negative is that they are billet, and, as such, a good bit heavier than the OEM endcaps.  Does anyone have any experience with these?  I'll be putting them on soon but curious if the weight at the end of a relatively light muffler has caused anyone any problems?

Thanks for your input,

Henryrifle

I put those on my 2015 250R and have been happy with them so far. The weight hasn't bothered me at all. It took a little bit to get the old end caps off the factory mufflers, but installation was pretty easy. I didn't notice a huge change in how the bike sounded either. I can't comment on difference in performance as I didn't run the bike before installing the new end caps.

PMB end caps are a very good product for those in need of spark arrestor. I had them on an 04 and 06 250, and 03 and 06 450. Only complaint is that the anodized red cap faded after several years. Weight issue is something to think about, especially on the dual exhaust bikes. PMB's are expensive for duals also. Have found a better option is to stash/save the duals for when it's time sell the bike, and add the lightweight FMF single TI Factory 4.1. You can drop 5 lbs, and add better power.

I had one on my old 2012 CRF250R and the red cap faded within the 1st year.

I got a chance to run them for the first time this weekend.  Install was not difficult but on my '06, removing both the factory endcaps and baffles required a vise and a propane torch.  I am positive the mufflers had never been repacked.  Install was easy though you do need a place where you can easily clean up the aluminum shavings from drilling out the rivets and drilling the pilot holes in the new endcaps - the kitchen table is not a good place  ?

I thought weight might be an issue but once the mufflers are assembled, it just feels a little heavier.

There was no issue running the screens this weekend though the new packing really smelled funny for over an hour of riding.

Now that I've seen their design, it does not look like it would be very difficult to create a cone shaped screen that would fit in the stock endcap.  That would not get you the official looking UFSF Approved engraving and that might be important somewhere.

So far, it seems like a nice product.

I want to be careful not to say anything that sounds bad about the product but, my bike ran like crap this weekend but I am pretty sure it is temperature related.  It was cold, below 30, and this bike is still jetted to run in the summer months.  I need to jet it richer if it doesn't warm up some down here soon.

Did you notice any performance gains? The stock unit (end-cap) is rather restrictive. Its good because it keeps the bike quite, but I get the feeling it stifles the engine at higher rpm.

Not at all. Didn't even sound different IMO.
