2006 WR 450 fuel tank

Recommended Posts

Hi out there I have a 2006 WR 450 that i'm trying to put a factory tank on but don't won't to spend $500 for a new one.  I have been looking for a used one but very little luck do any YZ models swap or any one have a stock tank.  I have an IMS 3.1 that came with the bike but all trails close to me aren't so big i need that much fuel.  Plus it's been causing hot engine troubles and is a horrible design so want a factory tank for most my riding.   Thank you

I see several on ebay but they're all 08-12 models.

I'd just keep an eye on ebay, things come and go pretty quickly there.

CL, like MikeNash said.  I've had isolated successes using CL, but it's time consuming.

You can go to ZOOMTHELIST.com and search CL nationwide, but anything after the first page starts pulling up older posts that are expired.

I have a stock tank, I'm assuming its off my 06 WR450 since I got it with other stuff for my bike from the guy I bought my bike from. I can post some pics if you're interested.

What size tank do you have on your bike??  I have the stock tank, and I've been wondering what kind of range i'll have with it.

I know my WR400 did 80 miles in Death Valley sand without ever hitting reserve, but that was a 3.2 gallon tank, and now I have 2.6 gallons.

i'm ridding around 4 hours on tight hilsl and roads only 30 miles or so but usually only go through 2 gallons of fuel

That gas tank cannot cause 'hot engine troubles'.

You have a water cooled bike, and heat exiting the top and sides engine is not supposed to be managed.

Heat manangement is the job of the water and the radiators.

You need to properly uncork and jet the bike first so it is not running lean/hot and if you ride terrain with lots of clutch slipping work, you will need a fan.

Just put less gas in 3.1 the tank.....
