i have a 98 yz400f picked up for $500, want to do a carb conversion to a 2004 yz450 carb. i know the 2005-2009 are basically bolt on other then hot start and throttle cables but all I can find is a 2004 one, is it the same if I have hot start and throttle assembly?

The '03 -'04 FCR-MX from a YZ450 is not as sophisticated a carb as the later ones, and does not have a leak jet, which gives you one less thing to tune with.  That's not really a very big deal on the big engine, though.  It will still work better than the original IF it's in good condition.

Cables and such are all the same as the later carbs.
