Hi guys recently purchased a WR450F and I love the bastard.

Buying the bike second hand I was lucky to have all the free mods done plus a few $$ mods.

I will list the mods as stated by the previous owner.

- Staintune Exhaust 'loud as hell'

- Rejetted Carby

- AIS Removal

- Grey wire mod

- Am I missing anything else?

I have had absolutely no trouble with the bike. I mostly ride technical trails throughout the Hunter Valley in NSW. I thought the bike would be a bit of a tractor like my brothers DRZ400 but it surprised me it tackled every hill I presented it with. The only things I dont like about the bike are the brakes! Because I'm a big boy the bike doesn't like slowing down as much as I'd like it to. So I ordered a 270mm oversize rotor and some stainless steel braided brake lines. Hopefully this will improve the stopping power.

I have included some pictures from my latest venture. Conquring mt sugarloaf in Newcastle NSW. Its elivation is about 800 meters, and was quite a technical trail. So a Sherpa tagged along to help guide the way.

When I had an 05 wr450 I loved it.  But the brakes.. oy vey!    I always thought they were a bit mushy.   But it wasn't until I bought a KTM did I realize how terrible the front brakes were on that yamaha.  I mean... just terrible  - when you compare.  Ironically, I think that the rear brake on the KTM doesn't have a lot of feel and the yamaha was better.

 

The rotor and upgraded cable should get you better brakes.

Yesterday I received a package in the mail, it's contents included a new oversize 270mm rotor with adapter bracket and front and rear stainless braided brake lines. Installing the new rotor was harmless enough. Took a long time to install it as the old bracket was just stuck. So after brake calipers in the vice and hitting it with my trusty mallet it came apart. I had to steal a screw off the old bracket to adapt it to the new one. If that wasn't easy enough puting the new brakes lines on and bleeding them trumped me. It took no joke 30 minutes to bleed the rear and about 1 hour to bleed the front. (Maybe I was doing it wrong) But I must say after taking it for a few hotlaps there wearing in quite wonderfully. There is no more spongieness in the brakes and they stop me alot quicker without the fear of the front locking up. So I'm super happy with that. I've also ordered a custom aussie pride sticker with my name and numbers. I will upload some pictures of the new rotor and brakes lines.

If anyone needs assist or information about installation of new rotor or brake lines. Feel free to message me and I will assist you as much as I can.

I have a few questions today maybe someone can assist. I want to get a new trail tech 100watt stator and trail tech vourger gps unit. I was wondering if anyone had experience with these products. Are they any good or worth the $?

Yep... the trail tech stator is good to have, especially if you want to upgrade the headlight to HID or LED, which I would very, very highly recommend.  You will need the voltage regulator as well.   Keep in mind that the standard lighting on the WR's is the old school filament bulbs which are AC.  The first time you start up the bike with the new voltage regulator they will blow, front as well as the rear.   You will have to choice but to go HID and/or LED.  

 

They are easy to install and you have 12vdc available to you at the wiring harness.    

 

as far as the GPS, the voyage is a fine unit.  The way it mounts to the bike is superior to the way you have to mount the garmin units.    You get a really clean cockpit.   But... there is no color screen.  If you can live with that  (you can), then its worth it.  You get two devices in one.   If I already didn't have an investment in Garmin devices, I'd buy the Voyager for sure.   No doubt.

I've just bought an '03 with a blown cylinder head and a dismantled bottom end lol. Fun time ahead for me.

Snowy heres a pic of the new rotor. It's a Tusk 270mm oversize rotor from the US. I was going to buy a china rotor but after some reaearch I found they are a low build quality. The new rotor looks and works perfect. Also brought some new brake pads which probably helped alot too.

Ok guys scrapping the whole trail tech idea. Going with a Garmin Etrex 30x. Last 25 hours off 2 AA batteries. Think this will best suit me.
