Bottom end mods

Yep, but I don't think you can find a new one for $1600. Even adding the $1200 in parts and machine work comes in less than new. But there is definitely too much neglect.

The reason was the top end wasn't getting much oil. When I started flushing the oil ports, this thick play dough like sludge started coming out. So I am positive this guy missed a few oil changes. I'll have to get a picture of the sludge noodles, haha.

Ok so I tried to install the wr gears in the yz. I ordered the whole gear set minus the shafts. I decided to go with the whole 1-5 trans swap because i didn't want any gaps in the ratios and it just didn't seem like it would fit together with miss matched gears. Anyway, I ran into several issues and abandoned this part of the build until the next time I pull the engine apart.

Here is the list of parts i ordered:

5TJ-17151-20-00                GEAR, 5TH PINION (25T)

2GC-17131-00-00              GEAR, 3RD PINION (16T)

5TJ-17141-20-00                GEAR, 4TH PINION (20T)

5TJ-17121-20-00                GEAR, 2ND PINION (15T)   this gear is the same on both bikes

5TJ-17211-20-00                GEAR, 1ST WHEEL (29T)

2GC-17251-00-00              GEAR, 5TH WHEEL (21T)

5TJ-17231-20-00                GEAR, 3RD WHEEL (21T)

5TJ-17241-20-00                GEAR, 4TH WHEEL (21T)

5TJ-17221-20-00                GEAR, 2ND WHEEL (26T)

1. when completely assembled, the two sets didn't match up very well. I determined this was due to the bigger first gear. This will require a wr main axle shaft because the 1st pinion gear in built into the shaft.

2. so i proceeded with the yz 1st gear and the left shift fork won't fit into the 3rd pinion gear detent.

I don't want to run a hokey set up in a freshly built bike. So next tear down I will buy new shafts and shift forks and report back with the build. sorry if i left anyone in expecting more.

Thanks for getting that far. I Appreciate the progress report.

I knew the output shaft was needed for the other side of 1st gear. My plans were to get the entire set of gears and shafts and I was curious about the shift forks still matching up with the different cog set. When do you think you'll break it open again?

Maybe the end of this year, if nothing happens before then.

Read through this thread:

https://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/954114-wr-4th-5th-on-a-10-yz450f/

The '10-'13 forks have differing part numbers, from the later WR, but this user did not install them.

Thanks gray, I wish I'd have come across this before. My initial search turned up nothing. Guess I was using the wrong search words, haha. Thanks though.
