Why does the throttle need to be half or less?  Maybe for the first 5-6 minutes.  Then you should be running it up to about 85% of its capacity to force a better seating of the rings.  Don't "baby" it.  Don't thrash it, either, but being too gentle at first is almost as bad in some ways as being too hard on it.

Yes sir. I'm going by the book which has never failed me.

Can't be too hard on it right now because of my seriously sore arse. Sorry if that's TMI....but somehow I find humor and irony in the situation

Rich you have to take a spin on the FX. It's absolutely dreamy and I think you would really love it

I already want one, and I already know it's out of the question for now.   Riding one will just make it worse.

We are expecting a baby in May, and my wife is somehow still on board with me picking up a new WR or 450FX sometime...not sure if it's a trap or what. In fact we're in the car right now driving to the Atlanta supercross (she's driving right now) and even brought up the topic of when I might start looking for the bike. I never brought up the '08 idea from this past week to her but I turned that off. Keeping sights set on YZ450FX.

I'm impressed you got out of the house with a case of shingles let alone hop on a bike!
Let us know how that gearing is when you are hauling ass down a fire road.

I didn't know that's what it was until I looked with a mirror..... I had shingles after cardiac catheterization six years ago and I had another cath last Thursday.....I know it's weird. Anyway, the cath was good. My coronary arteries are in excellent shape with 3 six year old stents and I believe...seriously...is because I ride dirt bikes. I know, TMI, but my story is so funny and so good it needs to be shared sore arse and all.

So I already had plans to pick the bike up at a shop 3 hours from home. I left it in the trailer over night and it was just too easy to cruise out, unload, and go ride (albeit with caution for the most part). I figured it would be a good time to break it in. I got 76 MPH on GPS during that 40 mile ride and plenty to go with the stock gearing. I'm going to put on a 48T and call it good for everything from tight one track to moto to Baja. The 450FX will do it all and do it well. I think speeds of near 100MPH will be possible with that gearing and for sure there is no need for a sixth gear IMHO. Right now I'm swapping a few things off the 250FX like hand guards, radiator fan, Scotts stabilizer, Shorai battery, wiring harness and switch for the Baja Designs LED light (which is fantastic). I'm adding an FMF with sparky, UHD tubes, and at some point a 3 gallon tank. I think stock suspension is pretty excellent so far and when I feel like I'm outriding it will go to Precision Concepts so that Bob Bell can do his freakishly insane suspension tricks and then I will not only be an OSG but I'll be a cheating one at that.

This is my 4th Yamaha in 3 years. I had 2013 WR450 which was an excellent ride but too portly for my liking so I got the 250FX.  Then I bought a 250X which I still have and absolutely will not part with. The 250FX is a fantastic ride but I have to work it too hard (and it works me too hard) to maintain momentum pulling my large ass around. So now I'm back on the 450F and plan to use the pinger as an alternate for everything except Baja.

I'm done switching bikes for awhile finally.

Here's a clip from today more ride stats than anything else. I was very pleased with what I found on GPS at the end of this ride. Still not feeling the best but I have rare days off and don't have tome to be sick. I finally got to push the 250X with Precision Concepts suspension. This bike rocks!

A man after my own heart. I love my 250x even though I got it just before winter and only have 2 hrs on it. What a mountain bike like feel after my 2012 WR 450. I will be adding a 450FX to the stable as well this year. Thought about the 250FX but I am 230lbs and I think i need the extra oomf. Cant wait to keep reading on how people like the 450FX over time... especially after the 12-15 style WR that we were so used to.

I'll post up more video tomorrow. But this is a standard WR headlight mask with a Cyclops LED light installed. 3600 lumen. I have to say I was more than impressed with just this small setup. Granted it's nothing like my BajaDesigns setup, but for anyone who doesn't race this will more then make it out of the bush. Not bad for a $60 bulb and $80 mask.

I don't have a battery hence the light going out when she stalls...

Looks good but a helmet mounted light would really make the overall package with it.

I'm loading a video with a TrailTech HID helmet light that I used during the same ride.

Here is the video...

Quick question.  Headed out to buy a 450FX today.  Super stoked.  Quick question.  Ordering some cycra handguards; do I need the 7/8" barmount or the 1 1/8"?  Thanks!

Paid $8000 USD OTD.  Took the advice of previous posters and went across the boarder to Abbotsford to take advantage of the exchange rate.  Unfortunately got dinged $200 at the boarder for importing Japanese goods but your mileage may vary.

That price also includes 12% Canadian tax that I've been told I can fill out a form and get reimbursed...

Can't wait to get a ride in.  Headed to Moab, UT next week!

Cool, don't put to many scratches on her. Hopefully your tall because Moab will push you to the limits on tight Rocky single track.

So you don't have to pay sales tax when you register that at your local DMV? I know I did with out of state, but not sure about out of country. Hopefully you don't.

Yes...yes it will.  Been there a dozen times or so and love it!  Slick Rock, Hell's Revenge, Poison Spider, White Rim, etc... Love it all!

I'm really interested to hear more about your impressions of these bikes.   I have a (much modified) 2012 WR450F and a YZ250FX.  I love my WR.  I haven't ridden the FX much yet, but first impressions are very positive.   I'm wondering what I'd be gaining by trading the WR for a 450FX.
