Anyone pick up a 450FX yet?

The bike just feels so much more flick able than the previous WR I'm also out 2 clicks on the front both comp and rebound 3 clicks on the rear and feel no need to change anything else.

Did you do 3 clicks out on the rebound on the shock also? When I get more into woods, I'm considering even going 1 more click on compression for my forks. I didn't touch the rebound I wonder if slowing the fork down a tad would help. Edited by RMK800

I did all the adjustments to the compression and rebound equally

I went out 5 clicks on the shock, both comp and rebound, a 1/4 turn on the hs comp on the shock, and kept the fork rebound stock at least for know.

I'm 155lbs and ride desert terrain mostly. I tried the slick/mud map that is on the Yamaha site and that mellowed the power a bunch, good for the tight stuff, not so good out in the open.

Changing the gearing has helped keep the front wheel on the ground, but there is still plenty of power to climb everything I've tried. At 14/47 the bike screams out I. The desert, and is predictable with the throttle in the tighter stuff.

The bike feels great, I'd like to stretch it out alittle. I'm kinda tall

I'm 6 feet with a 34 inseem. Long arms and legs. The pegs help. I'm running the bars in position 3 with a damper, that's as far forward as I can go. Stock bars pulled back a little, no riser. I like low bars. You could get a tall seat for it, it's a Yamaha accessory.

I didnt know the bars had multiple position capability. I'm gonna look into that and push it forward. Thanks, shorty

Steve, let's talk alittle about gearing. What sprokets are you using or think you should use?

I am a little surprised as the gearing feels a bit tall. If you do some roads in between your riding areas you might leave it stock. 5th gear likely has a very hi top speed.

I am running stock gearing so far but I could see a couple teeth larger rear sprocket as well. Bike seems to pull well with the stock gearing.

While I had the YZ gear set in the bike, I ran 48/13 (stock is 49/13) to try to find a little bit more top end.  Then I changed to the wide ratio 4th and 5th that the FX/WR's use, and found that 5th wasn't usable often enough to suit me.  There was an awkward gap between 4th and 5th within a speed range I ride a lot where 4th was uncomfortably low but 5th wasn't low enough.  I now run 50/13 instead, and it works fine.  The bike easily tops 80 MPH on a GPS with this set up, and happily rolls down fire roads at 60-65.  Your results may vary, but the internal gearing of the two bikes is the same with the two top gears I have, so it should be applicable.

I don't have a rekluse, and I ride alot of down hill in a lot of my rides.   I like some of the engine breaking.   I found the 13/51 on my WR helped alot in the slower stuff and added some engine breaking on the downhill.  I'm going to go to add a 13/51 on my FX, with only being 5'9" and in tighter spots where I can't get my feet down, lower gearing on the rear has helped me.  My guess is as more people buy this bike and ride in tighter conditions, you will see them going to a 51/52 on the rear.

I run the FastWay pegs and I liked having the bars in the #4 position (furthest forward), so I made a top bar mount for the Scott's damper that would allow that.  It also has holes for the other 3 positions, so one mount to cover all the options.  I'm not sure why Scott's doesn't make something like that.

I thought about making a batch of them if enough people were interested to make it worth the machine time.  I figure the FX and the WR will probably produce more interest in something like that than the F has.

I saw your mount, it looks great. I found that the bike handles and turns so much better with the bars in the forward position. This is my first Yamaha 4T after riding YZ125's and 250's for years and it was a struggle getting used to the Yamaha design and feeling comfortable. I find the bike needs a lot of sag and a lot of weight over the front to work the way I want it to.

Thanks!  I'm finding similar things with my 14 as well.  Good amount of sag, axle DEAD centered in the slot, forks flush or at first line.

I found that running a stiffer spring with more static sag and a bit less rider sag gives the same "lower" feeling when coming into corners or on downhills.  Doesn't hike up the back end as much when unloaded.

I still cannot figure out why Yamaha went with a MORE stinkbug stance with the FX giving it a longer shock than normal.  I wonder if the linkage is a bit different to bring it back to the same place, or it is actually taller.
