does anyone know if the yz 426 rear break will fit on the 400 swing arm, there slightly different in shape and the caliper carrier is a bit different. would save me a lot of hassle of someone new.

The only thing I can see that would prevent it from working would be if you have a '98 YZ400, which would have a 20mm rear axle, rather than a 22.  Otherwise, if the caliper bracket fits the anchor slot in the swing arm, and the axle lines up, it should work OK.
