Painting engine side covers

Does anyone have experience with painting engine side and valve covers,or any suggestions on color,I'm thinking on either black or gold

Some of them are magnesium and look like crap if left natural as they oxidize very quickly. Powder coat looks good for durability.

As my frame is steel and has the cool blue color, I chose to paint the clutch cover the same blue while I was touching up the frame.  It looks nice, but will wear quickly from boot rubbing.  

 

The metal covers aren't so bad to paint/powder coat, but the plastic ones just look awful once worn.  Not sure what to do about those.

I might paint and clear coat them to slow down the wearing process

Won't help

 

If you anodize them clear, it will slow it down a bit, but nothing will prevent surface wear.
