I'm actually going to skip the condo this time and rough it a little. I'll be sleeping in the back of my SUV. Anyone else here not staying in a condo??

We'll be arriving in Moab on Thursday morning, early. We're staying

at the Sleep Inn which is on the east part of town next door to the

Chevron.

We're working on a ride schedule and which rides we'd like to do. Send

us a PM and we'll get you our cell numbers so we can meet up for a

ride or two.

We have waypoints and tracks from our trip last fall. If you use

Garmin Mapsource, I will gladly send them to you.

Moab Trip Fall 2003

There was one day that I lost all data for some strange reason, so the

file isn't 100% complete. Ddialogue will have all the same data and

a bit more. ?

Things have changed for our group. We are still planning on going out, however the trail looks like TenMile Wash on Friday, outside of Green River. We also decided to stay in Green River due to the fact the it is half of the cost that Moab charges now. Saturday it looks to be Poison Spider in Moab.

What do I have to do to get a plate for my WR? My bike is registered as an ohv. Do I need to buy a light kit to make it street legal?

EASY...

Get a brake light, mirror and then have the bike inspected. Turns

signals and DOT tires are not needed for Utah. Once you have passed

inspection, you can take all of your paperwork, title included and

head to the DMV. Tell them you want to get the bike title for on-road

usage and they will re-title your bike and hand you plates. Of course,

you'll need to pay a few fees, but I think I got outta there for less

than $50. ?

EASY...

Not so easy. I just did mine here in Layton. First off you can call the State 801-284-5540 and ask for the requirements if your unsure like I did. Then you have to find a shop in your county that can inspect and knows what they are doing. 41-6-154.50. Motorcycles -- Required equipment -- Brakes.

(a) Every motorcycle and every motor-driven cycle shall be equipped with the following items, which shall comply with the regulations of the department:

(1) one head lamp which, when factory equipped with an automatic lighting ignition system, shall not be disconnected;

(2) one tail lamp;

(3) either a tail lamp or a separate lamp shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white light the rear registration plate;

(4) one red reflector on the rear, either as part of the tail lamp or separately;

(5) one stop lamp;

(6) a braking system, other than parking brake, as provided in Section 41-6-145;

(7) a horn or warning device in accordance with Section 41-6-146;

(8) a muffler and emission control system in accordance with Section 41-6-147;

(9) a mirror in accordance with Section 41-6-148; and

(10) tires in accordance with Section 41-6-150.

( The commissioner is authorized to require an inspection of the braking system on any motor-driven cycle and to disapprove any such braking system on a vehicle which in his opinion is equipped with a braking system that is not designed or constructed as to insure reasonable and reliable performance in actual use.

© The commissioner may refuse to register or may suspend or revoke the registration of any vehicle referred to in this section when he determines that the braking system thereon does not comply with the provisions of this section.

(d) No person shall operate on any highway any vehicle referred to in this section in the event the commissioner has disapproved the braking system upon such vehicle.

And YES you do need DOT approved tires. I went through this from bad information I got off this site and failed my first inspection. They pulled out their inspection book and right there in black and white it said fail any bike with "Not for highway use" on the tires. I then called the State and they told me it is a federal requirement.

The other things you have to have is a battery that will keep the lights on for 15 minutes after the bike is off, brake switch to illuminate the brake light when braking.

I use a MT-21 and a K760, so I'm not skirting the law, I simply want

to see a copy of it, either state or federal.

Let's get a copy of it out here where it's easily found so the next

time someone asks the question, the answer will be easy. ?

I'm gonna be out for a few weeks. I went to adjust my valves and found that the intake cam bearings are totally screwed. It looks exactly like the cam expanded in the bores and it mushroomed the aluminum bad enough to make it so the valve buckets wouldn't come out. The cam surfaces are scored and the head is toast. I have a hook up with the dealer in ely, but I'm sure this will cost around $$$$$$1000 for a new head and valves. I'll try to salvage the cam. I have no idea what caused this. I have never run low on oil, and it has been changed every 100 - 150 miles. ? :D :usa:
