2016 yz450fx just released

Recommended Posts

I added a WR 4th and 5th gear to my transmission and ended up dropping to a 13/50 from a 13/48.  The thing runs over 80 with ease, and cruises at 60+ happily.  I don't think you'd be looking for 6th very often with an X.

Any gaps in the gears?  2nd-3rd?

They will have a kick start removal kit claiming 15 lbs weight reduction. Seems unbelievable to lose that much weight, but if it's true that would put it the same weight as a YZ450F. https://www.shopyamaha.com/product/details/gytr-kick-start-removal-kit?b=Off-Road+Motorcycle&d=20|20&f=2016|277

At least they aren't removing the electric start.

Maybe they used the same scale to weigh the bike as the kick start parts?

5spd vs 6 spd is a no big deal to me IF the total the range in ratios is similar. Especially with bigger motor that pull the gaps easily,

Big tank option's?

YZ have the same stator output reg/rect as the WR?

kickstand?

Wish they would have made it a little lighter the Ktm 450xc is listed at 239 lbs no fuel the yz450fx is listed at 262 wet, Gas weight 6.3 lbs per gallons so we can subtract almost 13 lbs for fuel making the yz weigh in at 249 lbs and Ktm runs lithium batteries depending on what battery yamaha used, if they used the ytz7s like in the 250fx that's around another 4 lbs that could be deducted making it at around 245lbs. Would be nice if there was another 6 lbs to be had somewhere to make it a level playing field but I don't know where it would be?

A Yamaha kick stand assembly weighs almost 2 pounds.   ANd the XC doesn't come with a skidplate.   That is about another 1.5 pounds.  6 - 2 - 1.5 = 2.5 pounds left.

That is a massive weight saving for removing the kick starter.   It can't be true.

How does the YZ250FX start in gear ?  I fail to see the reason to have an electric starter on a bike if you need to find neutral to use it, especially if it kick starts in gear.

The YZ250FX starts ingear by pulling in the clutch, I have had mine since January and have not used the kickstart yet
