I got my new wr450 2004. I'm very hapy with the bike, but a little disapointed that the left side cover hole is missing compared to my old 2002. Is this cover hole closed in 03 also? Has anyone tried to cut hole in it. It was so easy to carry the bike using that hole... Is yz cover going to fit?

Thanks for any help....

It's missing on the 03's, too. I just grabbed the Dremel and went for it. Looks really good. I thought it was lame that Yamaha left that out on the 450's.

Great website dude. If you guys like hillclimbs come to WV for REAL hill climbs. It looks like the one you guys are on, but about 10 of them in a row, stairstepped. Get those boys some helmets too. Like that dudes Husky too.

I had cut a hole in mine, and had designed a nice vacu-formed plastic insert. However, our vacu-former has been out of action for about the last 6 months. Should be back in order in about 1 month. It's from england and it's a POS, takes a while for them to send repair parts and laborer for fixing it. Plus my company doesn't force them to get it done asap.

Will the yzf side panels fit? They have the hole...

Another consideration is to run apiece of nylon strap from one seat mounting bolt to the other, maybe 1/2 inche wide.

I saw "Hawaii-Rider" had that strap on his cannondale, and it looked really funtional. You could grab it from either side of the bike, no cutting, and I don't think it got in the way.

I am thinking about adding one to my bike.

(Hello Sabin! Hope all is well.)

The side panel for the exhaust side will fit. I have one on my 2003 and 2004 WR 450's. But for the side panel to fit you have to have a 2003 or 2004 YZ450 exhaust pipe. I have the stock YZ450 head pipe and sliencer on mine. But a aftermarket pipe will work to. And of course the airbox side dosent fit because of the airbox cover.

Why is that? :)

Because the YZ450 exhaust comes back farily straight. But with the WR exhaust it has this big bend out to the side.Thats why the WR's side panel is bigger and sticks out more. The YZ exhaust is way lighter and look's better. I have a yz exhaust on my 2003 and 2004 wr 450's and really like them. Not only does it look better but it flows better than the stock wr's exhaust. But also a aftermorket pipe will work.
