DRZ won't start after Big Bore Kit?

Recommended Posts

Installed a cylinder works big bore over the last few days. Got it all put back together and tried to turn it over and the battery was dead. So, I put it on the charger and let it charge overnight.

Yesterday I tried to start it again...

It turns over, but won't start.

It's getting spark, fuel, air, and I'm almost positive the compression is fine. Also I set the timing correctly.

I did some googling last night and found it might be the valves out of adjustment now?

The only thing I haven't done is tighten the MCCT since it has to be set when the engine is running, so I left it in but not very tight.

Any suggestions?

Valve clearance would not have changed. If the bike ran fine before the install I doubt they are the issue. You should check clearances though. What carb are you running? Did you hook the vacuum line back up? What did you do to insure you have spark, fuel and air. If all three are present it should at least fire.

I'm running the stock carb. I checked the vaccum lines and they seem fine. It was getting fuel to the float bowl and theyre shouldnt be anything stopping it from going any further, same with the air. It turns over and over and over. Nothing. Now, i set the engine at TDC when I installed the cams. There really isn't a compression stroke when the cams aren't installed correct?

I didn't hear any weird pinging/ valve smacking piston sounds. I'm going to check the clearances today but like you said I doubt thats the problem.

I checked spark by pulling the plug and turning it over with the plug attached to the coil.

When starting it I feel air pressure coming out of the exhaust and out of the spark plug hole, so I'm going to assume there is some kind of compression.

What else could it be?

TDC on either stroke is fine because it sparks every revolution. Was the plug wet with fuel when you pulled it after trying to start it? I would double check vacuum lines. Have you tried setting the petcock to "prime" while starting it?

The plug wasn't wet. It was dry.

The petcock was set on prime just in case. So maybe fuel isn't getting to the cylinder?

That would be my guess. If fuel was being sent to the cylinder the plug should have had fuel on it from trying to start it.
