Timing on a 1999 yz400f

Recommended Posts

Looking at buying a 1999 yz400f for $900, says all the matter with it is timing needs to be set, I'm wondering is this any big deal? Kinda seems too good to be true lol, here's what he posted...would appreciate any advice...

PRICE DROP!! Need this thing gone! I would consider trades for any dirtbike under 400cc, any atv, jet skis, boats, trucks, possibly snowmobiles. The bike has a brand new piston and rings, chain and sprockets, forks seals, maxxis rear tire, aftermarket carb, carbon fiber frame protectors, Enzo forks, three stage rear shock, Twin air air filter, pro taper handlebars, Dunlop front tire. All the bike needs is the timing to be set ( Currently set for the 426 because I'm an idiot) and a clutch lever.

This right here tells me that the guy has no idea what he's talking about.  The timing for a 400 and 426 is exactly the same, using the same cams.

Something smells

The problem is that the YZ400 is an old bike, and things are hard to find for it.  If you're going to buy one, you can find one that runs for that kind of money.  I would pass.
