Found an unknown part! Please help!

I have recently bought a 1995 Dr and since buying it I have stripped the engine down and replaced the piston and timing chain etc as yet needed doing. It was my first time working in a bike so I was as careful as possible, however I took the rear wheel off tonight and found a part down by the rear spring! Could someone please help me identify it and where it belongs! It is just over 8cm long with a slight curve to it and a thick end with a bolt hole. I'm not sure how to add a photo to this, if I can then I will add one! Thanks in advance for any help!

does it have numbers on it? Sounds like it might be the device used to adjust chain tension by moving the rear wheel backward. #16 in this pdf

Thanks for all your help, turns out it was only half a part as it was snapped! It was off the front sprocket connector! Image and conclusion can be found here for anyone interested! Thanks again for all your help!
