Yz won't kick

Recommended Posts

I have an 09 yz450f and was running good the whole weekend no problems at all and then I took a 30 min break and I went to Start it and it wouldn't kick down its not Locked up because it'll eventually decompress and then soon as you lift the kickstarter back up it gets stuck again what do I do? Did the timing chain skip a tooth or is there a decompression thing on the cam? Obviously gotta tear it apart but wanted to get some feedback before I start

Sounds like the exhaust cam skipped forward a tooth or more.  Check the timing.

If the Ex cam gets advanced because the chain skipped when the engine kicked back, it causes the auto decompression mechanism to disengage early, and the cranking compression runs way up.  The usual culprit is a kinked, stiff cam chain.
