My local suspension guy/riding buddy had a 12 250 sxf coming of a yz 295. He said it would either kick and be deflective or it would wallow. He was never happy with it. He bought a 2014 300xcw and loves it. He says he likes it better everywhere. Stay away from the linkage he says. I am thinking he was just not familiar with the ktm suspension and going back to a 4t threw him off a little. I have a line on a 13 300 xc right now.

I would find a different suspension guy right away.

Also the 13 XC is a great bike. If it is in good shape and good price I would have no fears of getting that bike because of the linkage. I have rode well suspended PDS bikes and bad ones, but I personally bought and ride a linked KTM.

That is one of the biggest complaints about suspension. Someone who is unfamiliar with the wp stuff tries to make it work. Happens a lot with guys that are super familiar with japanese suspension.

He is good with the Yamaha. I find it odd that he has the opinion the linkage sucks and nobody else does. he did say the 15 works great. I value his opinion but my suspension may go elsewhere this time. I am waiting for cash from the sale of a street bike and I will probably snag it if it is not sold. Excited!

I ride a '13 XC also.  I will take the linkage rear end everytime over the PDS.  It is much more forgiving over different types of terrain.  And keep in mind the PDS shock generally cost significantly more to get revalved than the linkage shock.

Congrats buddy! Welcome to the orange clan!

I didn't see this post until tonight but what i would of told you before you bought a bike is the following

The xc and xcw link vs pds

I truly believe that unless you are a world class endure pro either can be set up to suit any rider. If you do the occasional MX, the XC is better.

The transmission is a personal preference

I have had both

2015 250XC

and I'm currently riding a 2015 300XCW

they are both great!  the 250 xc is more of a typical 2 stroke

Fast revving and always looking for the pipe. With the 250 i think the XC is better vs the xcw.

the XC make it easier for you to stay on the pipe with the gearing. the 300 XC/XCW is not as much of a difference because the 300 is just so brute powerful that it can pull to the power band regardless of gear with in reason

You made a great choice. Congrats! Ride safe and ride it like you stole it!

Thanks! Pretty geeked about the bike. Has the Showa damper. Stealth Q. Enduro engineering suspension with springs for my weight. Spankin' new S-12's. Also has a never installed ride engineering linkage. Has about 40 hours on it. Even the footpegs have no wear to speak off. Nice find for me. Fit my budget nicely. Needs a battery. I hooked it up to my Powerlab 6 charger. I can only charge it to 50%

Nice!  For now you can kick start it, but when the time is right get a Lithium battery.  And where in Michigan are you?, I'm just west of Grand Rapids if you're ever in need of someone to throw dirt with.
