Scratching/Grinding Noise

Recommended Posts

Check your chain adjustment.

possibly.

Look for wear on your chain guard underneath the sound could be the chain rubbing on metal 📎ImageUploadedByThumper Talk1423017315.491175.jpg

correct. without even looking at your comment , this was exactly what i was thinking.

Yup, had the exact some noise on mine. Adjusted my axle blocks and it went away.

this could fix it temporary, but you need to have "some" chain slack. and with chain slack the chain will rub the worn out chain slide and make said noise.

Found the problem. It was my front sprocket. I was only lubing the chain instead of taking the extra couple minutes to remove the cover and lube the sprocket as well. Also my bike was starting to stutter really bad in 1st-3rd gear. I knew my sprocket was getting pretty bad, but I just kept putting off for another day... Finally lubed it up and all the noises and stuttering went away ?  Welp.... that's what happens when you're lazy  ?

Chain Rensioner.

There's been quite a discussion on ADVRIDER about this.

See post 10731

If you're in the USA and you're having a chain tensioner issue, report it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of DOT.

If there are enough of us experiencing the tensioner problem, NHTSA will force Honda to issue a recall.

NHTSA Hotline: 888-327-4236

I'm beginning to wonder if the tensioner plunger is sticking in colder weather, causing the problem to rear it's head. It certainly seems Honda has a design issue and needs to deliver on a faulty and potentially engine damaging problem.

nice riding boots ?

 .

Sorry about that Frenzy. Though they say ATGATT, I was riding around the block to make this video, and got a bit lazy. Didn't wear my riding boots, Kevlar pants, hi-viz jacket or body armor either.

Call me a slacker....

I just cant ride with the just sneakers on...  I have this fear of scraping off my toes...  lol   I've dragged my boots before...  if that was a sneaker, id be like my co-worker, tony no toes...  motorcycle accident took his...  dragged under his bike while the old man in the car never knew he hit someone...  people suck...

in the summer though I ride with riding shorts and my fox comp5 on the bottom...  so I guess my knees would be gone...  I gotta start wearing my fly knee guards...    lol

I honestly agree and hopefully this year I will wear more gear on a daily basis.

I have a Fox Titan jacket for hot weather and I also have some Fox Titan protective padded shorts as well.

I have been looking at Kevlar jeans for in town hooliganism !!!

There is a lot to be said about "dress for the crash" not that we plan on crashing but, it is best to be prepared for the inevitable.

I mean ... how cool is it to stand up after a wicked crash and say "I meant to do that" .... lol

oooo I hate being the nanny type but have your heard the statistic that most accidents happen within 5 miles of home.

two of my three motorcycle related trips to the hospital happened within a mile of the house, one of those was a high side in my own driveway!

Oh, that is dangerous.  I think I would move at least 6 miles away from there.  lol

So... the scratching noise in the video is completely gone and has been good, but I'm still having a stuttering problem. Along side the stuttering I've been hearing a metal smacking sound coming from underneath my bike. I took of the front sprocket cleaned off some sludge. While doing that I noticed this...  k8OVX2O.jpg

That metal piece has a groove in it from the chain... That would explain the noise... but why? Too much slack? I'm not really sure how much slack I should have. My slack was relatively tight when I changed tires a few months back. maybe i'm crazy but I could of swore I had two finger slack... Now it's three. Did my chain stretch? lol  and is this too much slack? hE0xBdC.jpg
