counter shaft seal problem

I am trying to replace my counter shaft seal. I can not get the spacer out. Is their a trick? I have tried putting vice grips on and tapping. It toes not budge. 

Any help or suggestions are appreciated, Thank You

The spacer on the countershaft itself, and what model DR do you have. It may need some penetrating oil on it, spray it and let it soak.

My guess would be the seal spacer like #36 on this DR-z400 scematic http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Suzuki/Motorcycle/2000/DR-Z400/TRANSMISSION/parts.html

Other models have it also, not the 650 though. They can be hard to get off because of the o-ring underneath it . Try using screws to pull the seal itself out, maybe not even messing with the spacer.
