How good did I do?

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a overstock 13 yz450f from a dealer and paid 6300 OTD. The bike is kbb- 5300 and most CL adds want about 6k for they're 13. So did I get a pretty sweet deal or could I have gotten it for cheaper??

Also any recommendations/ mods for this year bike? I mostly ride desert with occasional track during summer.

Just curious if there's any must have for this year.

It seems like you always find one for cheaper down the road eventually you will see 13 for cheaper that some place just wants to unload don't beat your self up if you sit around waiting for the perfect deal your not riding. Getting to ride is a better value to me than waiting who knows how long to save a couple dollars I agree with the above poster you own it now fill your brain with thoughts of how much fun your gonna have not if you could have saved a couple bucks. I think you got a fair deal for sure. I got a 12 and have done mods to make it a little more trail friendly since I do track and trail but it is a nice bike stock just a handful if you got it for a trail bike but that can be altered. If it makes you feel better i got mine for 6300 plus tax and set up so you got a better deal than me and I don't regret my purchase I have had a lot of fun on this bike.

I have tried to make my bike a good all around bike because I ride track and trail. I have done fly wheel weight I highly recommend that especially for the money. My other mods besides little stuff like that are hand guards and skid plate were slightly lower gearing 13/50 and I sent my throttle body to injectioneering. I recommend every thing I have done to my bike especially if you use your bike for any thing else besides track duty. Most of my mods where to make my bike more enjoyable to ride out side of racing motocross even though there was added benefits on the track from these mods as you probably have already found out stock you have to fight with this bike to go slow. Hopefully this helped.

The injectioneering mod smoothes out the jerky behavior the bike has at low Rpms. The benefit will not be as extreme if all you do is ride track. I'm sure you have already noticed it is hard to hold a steady speed under a quarter throttle. Wade wilcox at injectioneering modifies it and it makes the throttle not nearly as touchy and it ends up giving you better throttle control in the lower rpms. Sorry if I didn't explain that perfect. I gave it a try lol. I don't claim to be a great mechanic but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the hobby. Wade has had a few complaints about getting parts back to people in a the time he was suppose to and he was late getting my throttle body back to me but he did come threw in the end the mod is a big improvement. The mod is about 300.

just got a 2014 for 6300 otd.  a place a few hours south had a 2013 for 500 cheaper.

anyway, i dont mind paying 2500 plus left for a year or two old model thats brand new.

if i was a pro, it would be a different story, but for someone like me, the difference and fun factor is insignificant.

How do you like the new bike so far.

I love it, still dialing it in for my riding style and conditions. Playing around with the mapping and just getting use to it. I have no complaints and coming from an 06 this thing can turn! Imo. I have two lowering links I've been testing, 1.5mm and 3mm longer.

Ya I traded my 13 for a 14 there's a big difference in the ergos the 13 I was used to I loved that bike. I'm still getting used to the ergos of the 14 I just put a core 3.0 rekluse in it I haven't had a chance to try it due to the fact the weather has been to bad. The 14 is a whole different beast but I still miss my 13 I'm glad your having fun with it

Curios if you remember what map you ran when you had it, what mods and what type of riding conditions you rode in? Still a bit uncertain on mapping and just learning on my own as most maps seem to be very track driven, also it's hard to find any info on the 12-13 vs 10-11. It's my understanding they have different cdi's so it makes it a little difficult trusting the maps posted for the 10/11. It also seems like either the yzf forum doesn't have a lot of followers or if you don't have the latest bike you don't get as much support as others.

. No bud I had it all written down in the manual I gave that to the dealer when I traded it in my riding is more out door mx style with very little trail the guy I traded with had the bike set up well factory connection suspension I didn't ask about mapping as I didn't know to much about it back then. I traded a guy title for title for my 13 Ktm 250 sx as he liked mine I liked his. I get most of my info off of google for all my bikes. Sorry I can't help you there why are you having a problem with the way the bike is working for you?

Not that a good of deal if you ask me since its a 2 year old bike. I currently have a 2012. If I wanted a 2013 I am pretty confident I could get a low hour used one for about $3,500.Sure, you'll find people asking 5k or 6k since that's what they owe, but they'll never get that.

Did a quick search for one, here's one you could probably get for $3,500. Granted its no where near you. Although with Uship, it would probably only have cost $300 to ship to you.

Yeah I could have done a little better after the fact, but all in all i am very happy with my purchase and it feels good at the age of 27 to be able to purchase a brand new toy, paid in full/cash and be the first owner of something. Never had that experience before, of course you can get these for fairly cheap on the used market. I've had plenty of used bikes, this one was brand new!

I'm not having a problem, I am just trying to find a balance in mapping for my style of riding and conditions which for the most part is desert and some single track. I'm lucky if I get out to the mx track 1-2 a year. I have a dt-1 filter with a yosh pipe which opens her up really nice but for the riding I do I like to richen up my fuel and contain some of the bottom hit. I also know that I'm trying to gain some top as these bikes are know for not having much up there by retarding the time some. It's just unfortunate that I ride, bring it home and tune, then have to wait to ride the new setting and the again bring it home and tune. So every time I've ridden it's been a new experience. On my 3rd map now and hope this one will be the one. Will see what happens.
