Newbie wr450 2014

Recommended Posts

Hi guys like to introduce myself my name is Steve I'm from the uk started riding dirt bikes last year when I purchased my wr the info I've had from this forum has been so helpful in giving me better choice of what to change and what to add to the bike to help my riding. The uk bikes come restricted like yours in the us but comes with a competition kit that uncorks it leaving you only having to set the co level which I have found best set at 18 the stock ecu is programable so no need to change.

Parts I have put on

Fmf q4 hex. Rekluse exp 3.0 clutch talon rear wheel with Cush hub

Suspension resprung and revalved for my weight

I run the fmf map which gives good all round power and is nice and rich

Uk wr450 comes pretty good to go you just have to take out the throttle screw change the exhaust system and that's about it there are a few wiring bits to plug in but the whole kits is provided I do remember my dealer telling me there is something you plug into the wiring loom to make stock ecu adjustable I was lucky to have access to a fi tool and being able to play around abut with the co maps I just use a yz tuner

So you used both the GYTR tuner and the FI tool? Because they are both different devices.

The fi tool is a different device all together I had access to it thank god cause when I first got the bike it was set at 0 which is way to lean and was terrible to start without the cold start pulled out .Having played around with the fi tool 18 seems best for me and starts first time most of the time without cold start

I thought so but I misunderstood you. I was thinking hell if a UK ECU can change CO without the FI tool you could make a fortune selling them to us across the pond.

How do you like the Q4?

Is it deeper than stock? I like a good thump.

I also DO NOT like blasting neighbors houses and rocking residential areas.

Is it tame under gentle acceleration?

How does it run on the highway?

Any drone?

Yes it is definitely deeper, but it doesn't have that old school thumper feel/sound, it revs too quick. It's a good sound though.

Your neighbors will be ok with it.

I think tame or not is more a function of the FI tuning, but it certainly doesn't give it any 'hit' or anything like that. Just more ooomph all across the RPM range.

I dunno... never ridden mine on the highway so can't say. With 13/51 gearing it would be revving a bit a 60-70 mph.

Sorry I meant tame in terms of bark not bite.
