426 intermittently seizes up!

I recently purchased my 1st 426 with an unknown running fault.

So what happens is that you can kick it over for about 20 plus kicks and then all of a sudden it seizes solid and you can't kick it over. If you turn the engine backwards it'll free up and you can kick it over again.
I assume that it's got to e a damaged bottom end bearing??
Has anyone else come across this before?

If it is actually locking up, the rod bearing is a prime suspect.  The cage loosens up or breaks and lets the rollers skew out of line, binding up the rod.
