MRD EXHAUST...IS ANYONE RUNNING THIS ON THEIR 450 & IS IT ANY GOOD?

I have looked at MRD's pipes for my 07 YZ450F, they are priced to sell but are they any good? For those who may have them, where did you notice a difference in the power delivery with this set-up and how does it sound!? I like the idea of having a more "hand made" vs. stamped out exhaust (for less money too?) IF they are quality.  I'm looking to replace both the muffler and head pipe... I've heard a lot of people really like the DR.D systems for these bikes but they are more of a financial commitment lol. Right now I'm thinking FMF mega-bomb/power core 4 (I've read that the PC4 isn't much different than stock as far as performance?) A DR.D NS-4, which I know nothing about other than people seem to like their products. Or the MRD set-up which would be way less expensive than either of the larger manufacturers offerings. This bike is used exclusively for the sand dunes so which ever set-up offers the best performance on the top end would be preferred.  Any thoughts or suggestions? Is their another pipe I should be considering for this application? Thanks.

I've found the mega bomb picking up the bottom just to lose too much on the top. Sold it.

I put an MRD muffler (kept stock head pipe though) on my '10 450.

It definitely added more upper-RPM power, more over rev capability. Took a bit of the abruptness out of the low end, which was good.

Good to know, all I can seem to find on youtube is videos of the DR-Z 400 exhaust, a few honda guys but noone with a Yamaha? I was pretty disappointed lol.

. What's up ? I run full fmf I noticed power across the board including over rev I did also remap the bike I think fmf is the ticket.

Maybe the over rev is good. But we do monster hill climbs where horsepower is king and you know whats going on real quick. Lost too much off the top with a mega bomb header.

The Mega/Power bomb header was not intended to increase peak power, but to spread the power out more.  The thing is that that is something the YZ450 doesn't really have a need for.

Let me ask you this since you seem very knowledgeable about blue bikes... In all of your time spent researching, what would you say the best exhaust set-up would be for mid-top HP gain then???

I haven't really spent much time looking for the best top end pipe at all, frankly, because that's not where my interests lie.  Sorry.  In reading through what I have run across regarding the '07's in particular, The Akrapovic and Yoshimura full systems, or an FMF 4.1 slip-on with the '07 or '06 header are all worth about 1 HP at peak over stock, and a little better over rev beyond that.  

 

MRD is also a good system, and has normally been a bargain.  Dave (the owner) will build your system to do whatever you want it to, within reason.
