Entiat Access

Recommended Posts

Yeah, they're saying there's a ragged uncontrolled edge in the upper Silver Creek basin (an area that needs to burn) that continues to chew away. Plus, there were two large debris flows in Pope Creek that made a huge mess around the cabins up there. I think with Oso fresh in everybody's mind, combined with the history of Preston Creek creating a huge mudslide in 1973 that killed people and put 8 feet of mud on the Entiat River Road, they are being cautious. The biggest thing is the road work though. Imagine suddenly putting an abnormally large volume of large heavy trucks over the already crappy roads in the Entiat... tears 'em up pretty bad. Now think about having an excavator, dozer, grader, and brusher working on roads and multiple water tenders and dump trucks driving back and forth. Those guys need their space to work without pickups and dirtbikes buzzing up and down the roads. Heck, they had a tender get off on a soft shoulder on a narrow stretch without any other rigs coming yesterday and roll a couple hundred feet down the hill, guarantee they keep roads closed if there's work being done on them. And guarantee if you open a trail off of Mad that feeds into the Entiat with the understanding that the roads are closed, there will be plenty of bikes showing up on roads that "didn't see the sign".

I think they are whining....opening Lake Creek trail so folks can do the loop for a month before it snows is not much of risk for them. Most of the loop is open if ya come from the other side. Close the roads if they need to.  It's not like there are 100's of people flooding the area.  We had a group camp/ride set for the Lake Creek campground next week...guess not.

Lake Creek Campground is open. So are the Tommy trails accessed from the 1423 TH located on the Entiat River Rd.

The 5605 Rd is open between Trail 1424(Middle Tommy)and Trail 1425North Tommy), but not down to the Entiat River Rd. The only trail in the Mad River System that is closed is Shetipo #1429.The Lake CreekTrail #1443 will remain closed.

Hope this info helps
