I'm racing my pig at Gatorback this weekend. GoPro to follow

Recommended Posts

Guys I really dropped the ball Saturday. I had my gopro on the "narrow" setting, and the video ended up looking like hell. I still uploaded a lap to my google drive and you guys are welcome to view it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B25pTUh9bhIJM082UV9KRjhuYUE/edit?usp=sharing

I finished 4th out of 9 in the Pre-Modern class (94 and older).

What I noticed about the bike is that the transmission is not race friendly. 1st is very short, neutral is huge, and 2nd feels like 3rd. But I had a good time! I'll race it again in Bartow on the 28th.

Great you finished! Thats the BIG thing youf first time! What Honda did when they made the 650L was take 600R was put a taller primary drive then dropped 1st. That is the big gap you have For FTR H/S I would run 14/50 gearing or maybe 13/50 so you NEVER use 1st but putting around in pits! Use 2nd at starting line. Back in 93 I raced one in 4Stroke-A Class got 2nd that year also was the first one with elec start bike. Any tips I can give you just ask!

FYI In my day with FTR I have 3 Championships A Highpoint winner FTR H/S Referee for 3 years. mastera210 is my class and number but im retired from racing now.

HAVE FUN!

I also gear way down on the sprockets to allow holding 2nd gear through the tight areas.  I was using 14:52 with the teraflex or 14:50 with a normal knobby.

The earth bendy tire gives so much traction that it exaggerates the transmission gear gaps.  A normal knobby has a lot more wheel spin which makes the power feel more fluid.

Also the accelerator pump of an FCR carb makes the engine waaay more responsive at low RPMs and so the trans gaps aren't as conspicuous.
