I over heated this bike in the dunes and now it smokes BAD all the time. I want to sell it so I don't want to pour a lot of money into it. Can I tear it down, hone the cylinder, and replace the rings? Will that help it? Does the engine need to be removed from the frame to pull the top end off?

Thanks!

I did the top end on a mid 80's XR 600 once. I did have to remove the engine. Your problem might be more than just a rering. Once you tear it down check for cylinder and head for warpage. You may get away with a ring job but you probably need to change the valve seals.

The seals might have gotten hard and quit sealing but I was thinking the rings were washed out because of the heat
