PW80 puzzling issue , could use a little help..

Recommended Posts

Hello to all it's been a while. Haven't been riding much but with the interest my 8 year old is now taking in riding, it has also gotten my 12 year old back in te game! I'm very happy we're to be riding again!!

Here's my situation. Bought a 954 PW80 last weekend. It ran perfect until yesterday. My 8 year old tipped it over while starting it and it has run very poorly since. I then also discovered the oil reservoir was just about completely empty at this time. I thought the
level was good but upon looking closely realized that I was looking at discoloration and not the actual level. I'm guessing the last time he rode it it may have been running without 2 stroke oil. I filled the reservoir but I can't get the pump to pump any oil out.I've tried pinching the hose off and running it for 15 seconds or so to bleed it but to no avail. I also decided to do a compression test and it came in just under 110 psi. That didn't seem too low for it to run better than it is but I have no frame of reference. I've had other PW's but never a problem like this....heck hardly any problems at all with these reliable machines.

So here's my questions:

1. How does one get the pump pumping again?

2. Could the absence of oil in the cylinder (pump not working) be the cause for the poor

performance?

3. Could the drop have done damage to something to cause it to run like this (coil?)

4. Is 110 psi too low?

Me and my friend both built pw80 for pit bikes. The oil pump makes the bike run way rich. The best thing to do is remove the oil pump and block off the line to the carb. You should run 32:1 premix.

Other mods I did that helped it run better were

-drill out restrictor in pipe

-install a pod filter

-play with the jets

-changed gearing

Most bikes with an oil pump have a method of bleeding air out of the system when something like that happens.  See if you can find a manual and check the procedure.  It's usually pretty easy, like removing a screw i=until oil comes out.  Just get the pump working-Don't worry about removing it.

BTW- Hopefully, running with no oil didn't damage the top end.
