'04 XR650L - Exahust Popping on Deceleration

Bud is correct, I had the popping before and after smog removal until I attached the air cut to vacuum. All this talk about changing jets shouldn't be attempted until after the air cut diaphragm fix.

Hey Det,
You wanna know what the air cut does..... It cuts part of the air going to the idle circuit, making it richer. When you are decelerating, the manifold vacuum is very high and it overcomes the spring on the air cut diaphram, closing a valve that controls air to the idle circuit. Rich idle = no popping ... pretty cool feature... if you hook it up!

I'll try it this weekend for sure. Yes pretty cool feature and I wouldn't have disconnected the complete hose harness if the stupid IMS directions wouldn't have said so. They even supply you with the little rubber socks to put over the holes to make the mess up perfect :cry:
