Hi all,

So this friend of mine just bought a wr 450 -04. It took a day and 25 km for him to break it. And man did he break it well.

He got a hole on the topside of the gear box, the size of a ping pong ball. A cog decided to go  AWAL...Funny thing though, it took us some cleaning and disassembling to find it... No we were not drunk that day... but the hole is just below the carborettor so... it seems we put some water in it when we cleaned it... great ... anyways... That engine is pretty much gone we think. Obviously we could try to get new crankcase halves and some new coggs for 5th gear and hope nothing else got wacked... but ... man im not for it. So.. we called the local dealer in Karlstad, Sweden. Turns out they cant sell an entire engine but just the parts... for a big pile of money. Very big... so now... what to do? Ebay and such are obvious places but... we are in sweden and the postage of an engine from the states... not on the board. We are keeping an eye on the european ebay but there is just nothing going on. Odd this, considering that the engine is what goes bad first on this sort of bike. Anyways... any ideas how to recover from this disaster without robbing a bank?

Part out the bike you have, and buy another bike.
