There's a little clear tube on the front of the airbox.  You can see if there's oil in it.  I had some in there before but I think I my oil level was a little too high.  It hasn't filled up lately.

OK, motor is coming apart.

Slight delay (8 weeks)  due to lack of available engine stands....

So far, as fryed Stator-to-Rectifier wire has been found.

Looks like it's been arcing to the frame for quite a while....

Tomorrow the cases get split.

OK here's the findings:

10874231_10203353109288682_838612062_o_z

Crank:  no problems found. Will replace main bearings anyway

Piston:  no wear AT ALL (200+ hours)

Trans :  4th gear is toast. It appears the heat treating on this gear was faulty, and it is disentigrating: that is where all the debris in the oil must have come from

All other Trans components appear perfect

Main output shaft bearing will also be replaced

HotCams : Wave gah-bye!  Those POS mis-degreed goofy-power curve things are gone

YZ Cam   : 2007 YZ exhaust cam and stock 2008 WR intake cam with normal timing will be the final version

Exel wheel sets: No more black rims and hubs. Back to a stock set of wheels from e-bay. Nearly 4 lbs weight savings

Clamps : Gone are the DHR ultra-stiff clamps and back to a set of NOS 2008 clamps.

Gone is the GRP riser and damper. Too overly sensitive for me.

Adding BRP submount and frame stem to use with Scotts damper

Ignition: Dynatek will remain, but the advance curve on map 3.1 will start at just above idle at 22+, instead of 16+

Carb:     2007 YZ450 carb will remain (probably was never needed, but I had to try)

Forks:    I will not mod the valving until after I try the new wheels and clamps, to see if some of the compliance came back

Clutch:   Removing the goofy Moose Racing clutch pack (what a pos...) and replacing with stock, still with 250f springs

              New clutch cable

New ASV clutch perch (hate the floppy feel....)

ETA:   4 weeks

That's because they're on this bike now. Love em, they look and work great, and I don't think I'll be breaking a wheel anytime soon. Didn't really notice the extra weight enough to care.

If you are flying over 100' doubles, you better have that wheelset.

They don't break.

I never adjusted a spoke in 3 years............

OK, getting closer to putting the motor back together.

Going crazy trying to get the KTM 350 to do what the WR/YZ can do.

That KTM can climb the gnarly really well, going slow....but going fast over rought terrain, and my elbows ache for days....and it's not going that fast, either...

Nice! So what are you going to do if a YZ450FX is going to be released. You won't want to sell it.

Sell the 350 :)
