Make your 2014 air box sand friendly!

Recommended Posts

Ok not yet.. I'm looking for ideas on how to set up the air box for sand (never ridden the dunes yet) as our intake scoops will scoop sand if you put er down in the dunes I am really meticulous when it comes to my bike and I want NO sand to get past the filter besides air filter maintenance and grease on the base as well as the PC prefilters have anyone made any mods to the intake shrouds?

Here's an idea let me hear your thoughts and input. Drill some holes under to allow sand to drain?? I got some quick release 1/4 turn clips for my air box so I guess I could just pop it off real quick and shake the sand out..

Sand will drain out the slit in the bottom of the airbox.. get an Outerwears.. The one for the 2012 works perfect.. then before I put my filter in I grease the metal ring on the airbox where it meets the edge of the filter. ... never had a problem with this one or my 12 or my 11..

It actually works better than the under the seat filter design on most other bikes...

I have over 300 hours on all 3 yamaha I have/had and I don't have a problem.. never have and I have wrecked every way possible..

I'm not saying the design is a problem or design flaw at all. I freakn love it. my yz250 filter got muuuuch more dirty But you prep your bike for the terrain you ride like in mud use some pam under the fenders, foam by the brake lever ect. Just trying too see what people are doing for this unique platform . Thanks for the input guys keep it coming .

I raced mine this weekend and i guess with the cycra stuff u get more in the air box , the track i rode was dug deep with lots of wood chips , well all that dirt and wood chips were in my air filter box and really caked in near the bottom right in front of the seat. I only rode 2 motos and didnt crash i had to pull the seat, tank and shrouds to get it clean to even pull the filter it sucked very disappointed i know the regular design get dirty 2 but i guess there so much less space with this design theres no where for it to go and u got to take the bike apart just to change filter boooo sorry for the rant might go back to factory after this

^ wait, so you're saying it gets dirtier and is harder to clean with the cycras?

Yes seems like alot more debris in there and the one piece shrouds make eveything tighter .i ran the stock stuff alot and stayed virtually clean every ride but if stock did get all that crap in it u would have to take tank off to clean box out also i wish i would have took a pick maybe next time if i run them again Edited by crf917rider

where are you finding the outerwears fitted for the 2012? I have searched everywhere including the manufacturer website and I cant find them. Edited by Goforaride
