will other magnetos will fit a WR

Recommended Posts

Hello

my magneto groove got wrecked ( where the woodruff is ).

i treid to search on ebay a magneto for the 2005 model but there are only for the later models.

and the MX dosent look even close to mine.

but the YFZ (atv) looks very similar, the catalog number are not the same.

would a YFZ magneto will fit and work on the WR?

because a new one is to expensive, also at a lathe shop its not very cheap.

thanks ?

I presume you mean the rotor (flywheel) ??

If so, then yes, certain ones of the quad version will fit.   Off the top of my head I do not remember

the specifics but if you find ones close to the model year of your bike (04, 05, etc) you are probably

OK.

A popular mod with the quad guys is putting the wr450 crankshaft in the quad motor because it is

lighter and spins up faster.   the original quad rotor fits on the wr crankshaft and off they go.

I put a flywheel from a 05 quad on a 04 wr450 so it does work in reverse also.

Here, the whole stator+rotor unit is called a magneto, or at least used to be.  The flywheel was

always called flywheel and still is.   Goes back to the days of using points for ignition.     Most people

do not use the term magneto anymore though.

Not sure what you mean about same position for the camshafts...    how is that related to the

damaged flywheel?

In any event, the quad cams are physically the same.   I think the quad uses a different lift profile

but they swap between the engines without issues.
