1999 yz250 clutch cable

Recommended Posts

Sooo I'm pretty much a newb at all things atv/dirtbike related but i kinda know my way around things from having my bike for a couple of years. I'll start off by saying the bikes been sitting for a while in my garage as I didn't have money to get it going. A couple of months ago I tried getting it going but had no spark. Tried everything but it seemed to be a dead CDI. Soooo spent the 300 for it and wa la it kinda wanted to get going. Got spark but my carb started leaking like all hell. Figured it needed a cleaning and so I gave it one. Still nothing. So I tried a new float needle and gasket. Bam, got it going. Been riding these past couple of days down the street to see it working. It's been fine but suddenly as I drove the clutch wouldn't come back up from all the slack it had. Tried adjusting the cable and nothing but open up the casing and saw this ImageUploadedByThumper Talk1406504388.255672.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1406504412.404120.jpg

Well I'm not sure. I bought the bike a while ago, but rebuilt the engine about two years ago myself. Had it sit around for about a year and am now trying to seriously get it going. I didn't change the clutch plates as I rebuilt the engine I remember them looking fine. But I guess I'll have to check them out again

Soooo this is what I got after taking apart the clutch. Not sure what I should be looking for, are the plates in need of changing? And is that the right order they should be in. Seems like it's gear first and ends with gear. Thanks, any help is appreciated!

Outer pressure plate seems to have a groove in it also should be flat how's you're push rod look mashed on the ends? Are you sure its a 1999 some early yz250 have a ball that goes between your push rod and pressure plate might explain why your cable was so slack.

Yea I'm sure it's 99 I've got the title for it. I'm thinking of getting new plates, springs, and basket. Butttt gotta save some $$ up for that. Any recommendations?

File the pressure plate smooth and the grooves and try it what do you have to loose lol

Soooo I went out to sand the pressure plate and basket today and saw how ugly my pressure plate really is. I mean I don't know much about bikes but I'm sure it shouldn't look like this...... ImageUploadedByThumper Talk1408030423.777666.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1408030458.210000.jpg
