Uncorking 2012 wr450

Can someone please clear an issue for me. I have a WR450 2012 supermoto it came with the GYTR tuner to load and change maps on the ECU. I have read several threads now stating that this is not possible as I also require the GYTR ECU. If this correct why is my ECU accepting maps from the tuner? Anyone any ideas ? Any info greatly received.

It is my understanding that the stock ECU on 2012 and newer WR450s are not programmable and needs to be replaced with the GYTR ECU in order to change fuel and ignition maps. Perhaps yours has already been changed?

USA models come with the non-programmable ECU.

It would seem odd that previous owner would buy the GYTR tuner if he didn't have the ECU first, as the stocker is 'locked' and not programmable. Have you checked to see if you don't already have the comp ECU?

OP's location says New Zealand.  I think the locked ECU and throttle stop is just for the land of the free.

LOL true. They get the bike plated/dual sport as stock, we don't. LAME

Thank you everyone for your input, I have got to the bottom of this. Locked ECU's are on Europe and USA bikes, however for the Australian and New Zealand markets the ECU is fully programmable. It still does have the standard throttle stop which is about to be removed.
