2011 yz450f

Recommended Posts

Currently I have a 2005 crf450r that I'm happy with but I'm looking for a change. I found a good deal on a 2011 yz450f and gave it a test ride yesterday afternoon. I only got to ride it up and down a dirt road a couple times but the first thing I noticed was it seemed to be lacking power compared to my 05 crf.  This is the first bike I've rode that had fuel injection and I'm not sure if it just felt like it had less power because these bikes have such smooth power delivery or if it was just lacking power all together. Does anyone else have any experience going from similar bikes to one of the 2010-2013 yz450f's and did you notice the same thing?

any idea on how many operating hours?

No idea, it looked to be in decent condition.

I have a 2012 yz450 brand new.  Couple friends have a 05-08 style crf450.  They did 1 lap got off it and said its way to &%$#@!ing fast compared to theirs. So I'd do some research on the bike and see if anythings wrong possibly.

Thanks, I think I'll try to find another about the same year in my area and give it a test ride. I definitely  wanna make sure I don't buy a bike with a worn engine.

I have a 2012 YZ 450 and my brother rides an 05 CRF 450. I have owned my bike since new and it has the usual bolt on's plus the TB modified by injecioneering. Brothers bike has an exhaust but is otherwise stock. As mentioned before, the different tunes can make the bike feel different but ultimately it doesn't change the peak horsepower, just how it is delivered. With all that being said, my brothers 05 CRF 450 is every bit as strong as my 12 YZF. Matter of fact down low, it actually feel stronger intitially. For me, the power that the FI bikes put out and put down feels different than the carbureted bikes. For the type of riding we do, I can't honestly say that FI is a drastic improvement over carburetors except you don't have to tweak the fuel screw when temps change and there is no turning off the fuel petcock. If sheer power is your only concerns, I would say stick with your 05 and freshen it up.

However, if the complete bike is taken into the picture, the 10-13 YZ450 is a superior bike. Even with re-valved suspension on my brothers CRF, the YZ suspension is far better overall and has is finest stock suspension I have every had the pleasure of riding on (been riding for 35 years). The ability to change the characteristics of the bike to suit the conditions with a simple hand held scanner creates a bike that can hit hard on perfect soil or meter out the power for conditions are slick. Riding the two bikes back to back, for me, shows how far things like ergo's and suspension have come. You won't be disappointed if you go the YZ route but the 05 CRF 450 is a great bike.

Thanks man. I think I'll be picking up one of these bikes within a week. I was impressed by the suspension on the bike I tested and I didn't even get to do any serious riding. I have another 2011 that I wanna look at and its not too far away. This guy also has the mapping tool so I'll get to check out the different maps and see if the power feels stronger on this one.

Had an '07 CRF - was very good, but overrated in my opinion. I think the 10-13 YF is superior. Check the mapping as noted above. I actually prefer the broad map with 13/49 gearing and a pipe. The suspension is so good it's ridiculous - just a little more oil in the forks and you're good to go. Never got the CRF to track in ruts, even with MB1 and Factory Connection attempts at set up. Yes, the YZF flattens out slightly up top, but my brother has ridden both my CRF and the YZF and he came back from the YZF ride and had the biggest grin you ever saw. (And he was a lifelong Honda guy - even had a V65 Magna and the YZF still scared him.) I guess this doesn't matter much, though, as my 2015 YZ450 should be here soon!

I just traded for Yzf450 13 model mine is slow down low tap the clutch it has gobs of mid to high rpm power it has to be improper making mine is more like a 2 t than a four the way it's mapped. You feel like you have to ride it on the pipe. That all could change with mapping and gearing.
