TT-R125L Clutch Won't Engage

Recommended Posts

Upon washing my bike, in first gear, I pull in my clutch to push the bike up my driveway to put it away in the garage, only to find that, the bike won't move when I pull in the clutch, and it is extremely difficult to shift at all and put into neutral, I came to the conclusion that the clutch will not engage even the slightest bit. I open the oil fill cap, to find that the tank is completely filled with water. I drain it, put in new oil and it still won't work. I run the bike for a good five minutes and then it is working perfectly fine, absolutely no problem whatsoever. I then determine that it was the water in the oil that was causing the problem and I park the bike. The next day I come out to find that the exact same thing is happening, it cannot move while in gear with the clutch in and it is extremely difficult to shift. I don't think it is anything wrong with the cable, as it is moving the push lever down near the crankcase as usual. I can't figure out what's wrong, can someone help? Any ideas or suggestions?

Sounds like normal clutch drag.

I'd like to read how your crankcase got full of water.

That's what I was thinking, but it's never done that before and I want to know what made it start doing that just now, it wasn't sitting at all, just got back from like a week of riding and then it starting doing it.

Ya know man, I have no clue. I went riding and it got stuck in some deep water, and there was water everywhere, how it got into the crankcase, I have no idea.

dont put in to much oil!! do NOT overfill! my 230 takes just under a quart if you dont change the filter.

what oil are you useing? it has to be a certain kind for the wet clutch. not sure tho which kind.

I use Yamalube 10W-40 which is the recommended oil for this bike and I know I didn't put too much in :excuseme:

It's excessive, when the bike is running, everything is normal and it works great, but when it's off and in gear with the clutch in, you cannot roll the bike whatsoever. No, I don't beat on it much, but I know that water got into the oil, so could it be that the clutch plates are sticking together?

If it is working ok while riding the bike, I wouldn't worry about it. If the bike tries to creep while stopped in gear with the clutch pulled in or is impossible to put into neutral, then you might need to fix something.

Some bikes just seem to have a lot of clutch drag when they are not running, especially if they have been shut down for awhile and the oil has dripped out of the clutch plates.
