What size socket do i need to remove the upper steering stem nut? Ive already tried a 30mm and this is too small.

Mate, just use a big shifter, ROOSTA out!

Torque on the crown nut is 105 ft/lb, the nut is aluminum, and the space around it is somewhat limited.  The use of a "shifter" ("Crescent" adjustable wrench) is a really bad idea.

I agree. I already removed the hadlebars to access the triple clamp, but this is a component of the motorcycle that MUST be torqued properly, not wrenched on with an adjustable wrench.
