Wr450 bark busters

I just got some moose bark busters for my 2008 wr450 which still has the factory pro taper yz high bars. They fit like crap! According to the customer reviews on dennis kirk these were supposed to be a good fit for tapered bars.

I know a lot of people say that any kind of busters you get you have to bend to fit but what does that really mean, because these arent even close...

What does everyone else run on this bike for bark busters? Thanks.

Cycra pro-bends here, fit great on my 09

I can't ever remember installing a pair that didn't require a bigger hammer.

I have bark buster Jets on my 09 WR450 and they went on easy. I like them a lot.

I have a pair of Moose on my 2013 WR450F and they fit good. The mounts are tappered, so make sure you have the correct rear clamp with the correct front mount.

They all require some level of massaging, or some level  of more expensive hardware to make them fit.

 

What your picture shows is absolutely typical of 'generic' mounts; they will work fine however.

 

Cycra probend with CRM mounts are my favorite.

I run Cycras as well. They fit great and they're pretty heavy duty. I got another set when I went to the Flexx bars and the set up and fit is even better than with standard bars.

Haven't tried the cycra, but I like Enduro Engineering. I have them on my 250x and wr450.

Barkbuster bark busters on my Protapers (Windham), they fit well 'cos an Aussie bloke made them in his shed   ?,didn't have to bend anything. Had a set on my dr too, no fitment problems (TAG tapered bars), and another on my TDM900 (7/8 Renthals), also good.

 

Did you bolt it all up loose, get everything lined up, then tighten the bolts?

 

Are you sure the clamps are for tapered bars not 7/8 bars (could have been a stuff up when they were packed up and sent)?

Use Zeta ones on mine

They have a pivot point in the middle of the clamp/leg, which yours do not appear to have

 

As they clamp on the tapering portion of the bars, you have to get them in the right position so the diameters match and so you get full contact between clamp and handle bar

As the OP has his, hey will move the first time he hits the deck resulting in possible broken levers

 

Best fitment method is to find the optimum place for the clamp, and then make the rest of it fit to it, rather than allowing the clamp to go where the re-enforcing bar wants it to go

I have a set of AUSTRALIAN made "BARK BUSTERS" fitted to PRO TAPER 7/8 PASTRANA/FMX BEND. No problem at all fitting them.

Read what 5270Advrider wrote ? I have the Cycra mounts which come in multiple applications depending on the bars. And this is related to the taper, not the size.

You can use these for any hand guards BTW.

I have used the old original design VPS Barkbusters on my last three bikes, they give a little more room for the levers, and allow for fitting the larger Storm plastics in winter. But I'm in the desert, not a lot of real tight woods riding here...

They also have a lighter duty type without the strength of the aluminium bar. If ya ride desert you shouldn't need bark busters? Nothing to run into ie: trees etc...

If there was only one tree in the paddock I'd manage to break a lever on it.....

 

Mallee desert, lots of trees, just spread apart.  Plenty of random rocks to drop the bike onto as well.  Gum trees along the river are a few feet across, don't move much when you hit them, but they're not close together like pine forest etc so not too hard to avoid.  Mostly.

 

One track I was riding yesterday had a shrubbery along both sides, bars were constantly hitting the hopbush.  Barkbusters stop the front brake getting pulled on.  The lighter ones might save a few grams, but I'm happy with the ones I've got and maximum protection. Yesterdays ride was 330km, remote area, alone. I carry spare levers but I'd rather not break them in the first place.  Or my fingers.
