Multi-function display acting weird

Hi,

I dont ride too often so my battery isnt in a good shape and somedays ago my bike wouldnt start by e-start, only thing i could ear was a clicking noise (from the relay under seat, i took the battery , let it sit for 30minutes and measured voltage : 12.02V ), then i went for a ride and thought that it would charge the battery but weird things started to happen, my odometer was randomly showing the speed (everything between 0 and 199 kph, even though some times i wasnt moving at all ) then sometimes i needed to shut down the bike and start it again and it wouldnt not start by e-start, i had to kick it one time and right after that i could e-start it again... sometimes the multi-display wouldnt even power itself but i could kick start it and it be able to ride and the multi-display would show a few minutes later... 

I rided all morning (so battery should had time to charge) but it showed this behaviour all morning till the end

Can it be just the battery that is screwing it all ?

Short answer, yes. I think so. And you need a new battery anyway.

Digital electronics are funny

If they are missing a certain minimum 'threshold' value for voltage everything goes wrong.

Charging this one with an external charger wont make it work ?

Depends on the quality and design of the charger

You are converting AC to DC

Alot of cheaper chargers 'clip' the back wave on AC and make a sort of pulsing DC

Your electronics may or may not be cool with that

 

I'd just get a new battery and be done with it

My WR recently did just what you are describing, reading like 188 on the speedo and the e start not working.  One of the fuses next to the starter relay had blown.  Replaced and all is well.

I had the exact same problem after a little crash, and finally found a blown fuse. New one fixed the issue. There are two 10A (I think they're 10) under the seat. I bet one's busted.

I will check that... but it's weird, cause after washing the bike yesterday, now the multi-display powers fine (didnt power before, but i could start the bike) , didnt had time to try e-starting it, will try today and reply here.

You guys do realize that one of those two fuses is a spare and is not connected to anything, right?
