Yep, agree, that was my first thought. Or, as others stated,  you could  do it yourself and get some great experience along the way.

Yeah, I guess a dealer isn't going to tell anyone,  "Ya know, it's not really worth fixing.  It's gonna cost too much".  Like I said, some owners may bite the bullet and say "go ahead and fix it".

This is roughly the cost to rebuild a 05-07 CR250. Its actually about $40 more for 03 crank and cylinder. Clutch is the same. This doesn't include fluids and is about 30% off of retail. Your dealer will get full price out of you. You could have the cylinder replated and save about $100 and use a Hotrods crank and save about another $100.

If you are slightly mechanically inclined you can probably do the work yourself like others have said. I currently have my 04 apart and it's not that bad. I'm just trying to decide if I want to split the case and check the bottom out while I have it torn down. I'd say go for it and learn as much as you can along the way. Plus it's always easier the second time around.

Well 2800 equates to about 1400 in Florida! Seriously, ditch the bike shop and search out a good garage mechanic for that work. Ask around, hell its a 2 stroke so its really pretty easy.

The fouling plugs issue I suggest running a BR8EG the stock plug that came with my year was br9 but running a hotter plug kept my bike from fouling out

Fouling plugs is a sign of something being wrong, next time do something about it before it needs everything.
