94 DR650 ACCIDENT / BENT FORKS

Recommended Posts

Kid was okay thank god !   Its a 94 and we just did shock seals on it    The LEFT is pretty bent the RIGHT not so much but not good.

I saw some 91 forks on ebay for under $50 . One guy measured the diameter and it matched up 40.9MM      I did  notice a difference on the 91 forks   one thing is the air fittings on the top of the early forks. I may pop our new seals out of our forks  and move them to that set of I get them   should I keep the air,   is there springs in them too?   Not sure we can move our springs and end caps over or just leave the 91 set up as is?   Any thoughts?  I thought air forks were popular in the early 80s. $_57.JPG

I've had forks straightened before, but finding a shop to do it might be hard. Most new shops don't do that kind of thing anymore.

The air valves aren't necessary. You're *supposed* to use them to bleed hot air out of the forks during a demanding ride. But most people don't use them at all, or they use them incorrectly by pressurizing the forks to make them stiffer. So it really doesn't matter whether you have them or not.

I don't know how different the early and late forks are, but it's likely you could move your springs and caps over to the new set. Replace the seals while you're at it.
