2004 WR450 Charging Electric Issue - Need Help

My WR has been giving me fits with the Charging system.  Here are the symptoms:

 

1.  The Bike with a good quality battery fully charged with electric start and run good.  The headlight and tail light work.

 

2.  During the rides the bike will not start with the E-Start after about 4-6 stops.  The Bike had a good quality battery(I am not sure now because of the problem).

 

3. It does not appear the battery is being charged when tested on the DC volt meter.  However, the lights are bright when the bike is running.

 

4.  I have a new Starter and I replaced the stator about a year ago thinking that was the problem. I also have a new Starter relay.

 

Questions:

 

1. Do I still have a Stator issue?  If so, how do I test it?

 

2. Is there a diode controller or a relay that could be the issue.  If so, how do I test it?

Like I said  the E start works for about 6 times during a ride, then all I get is a click and the Red On/Off light goes dead when I push the E button.  I can still start the bike when I kick start it.

The head light on your bike runs off the AC side of the system.  Not sure about the tail light.  The stator is doing it's thing if the headlight works while running.  Check the voltage at the battery with the bike running, you should see about 13.5 to 14.5 volts.  If all you see is battery voltage, it's probably the regulator/rectifier or some associated wiring.

This.  You may find that the voltage is lower at an idle, but if you bring the revs up, voltage at the battery positive should rise to between 13.5-14.5.  If it does not, then check the Rectifier/Regulator for both input AC voltage and DC output.  Tests and a schematic are in the book.

If it isn't charging, that new battery gets lower and lower.  It may have enough juice to start it early on, but after awhile, it's going to drop too low to start the bike.
