'06 Wr450F, updated.

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I've been a long time lurker so I thought I should contribute something. I bought this WR as a leftover in '07 cheap from a big dealer in Minnesota who was dumping stock on

ebay.

I did the "free" mods including a GYT-R AIS removal/jet kit, ProMotoBillet exhaust

insert and hand guards. I rode it a few times and life intervened. Sadly it was parked

in the garage until this last spring when a buddy bought a '06 YZ450F and needed a

riding partner. I pulled it out, changed the fluids, aired up the tires and it started

right up.

I had forgotten how much fun a dirt bike could be! So now that winter is

here I can spend time in the garage updating the old WR. This is going to be a long

winter, so I have plenty of time on my hands for a project. The first phase is done.

Here it is.

Updates;

-FMF Power Bomb and Power Core 4 full exhaust system.

-Braking Wave rotors, sintered pads, stainless steel lines, Dot 4 fluid. Acerbis,

ProMotoBillet disc guards, Works Connection rear caliper guard.

-Renthal Fatbars, billet mounts and grips.

-SuperSprox rear sprocket.

-Misc. WC billet parts, aluminum frame guards, skid plate and radiator guards.

-FLU Designs graphics kit, UFO Enduro rear fender.

That's it for now, I have a few little things ordered, billet fuel cap, wide

pegs, Zeta oil filter cover, white Cycra fenders (new style) and hand guards.

I'm planning to send the forks and shock to Race Tech for the full treatment, they've

done miracles on my street bikes.

Then Stage 1 Hot Cams and head porting by APE is next along with a Boysen high flow

water pump kit and a GYT-R or Hinson clutch.

Probably be cheaper to just buy a 300cc 2T, but I enjoy modding my bikes as

much as riding them. And the old steel frame WR is almost perfect for the type of riding I do, fire roads and trails in the Mark Twain National Forest, sand/chat and trails

at St. Joseph ORV park and my buddies 500 acre farm/woods. If all I was riding was rocky single track I'd definitely get a 2T.

Yes, I plan to do all the pivot points when I send the suspension to Race Tech.  I've read bad things about the lack of grease from Yamaha.  The bike probably has less than 15 hrs. total on it, and I'm not a hard rider so the frame and wheels are still cherry.

Don't forget to use the 20% off TTalk coupon code ?  Let me know if you have any questions/issues with the process with us, I'd be more than happy to help answer any questions for you.

Hey guys, thanks for the compliments. I have been accused of being anal when it comes to my equipment. Here are some more pictures. I think I'm almost done updating it. Still looking for a '07 or newer headlight though.

Very nice bike.  I bought an '07 headlight from this guy on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181304371688

Took a month to get here (over Xmas) but that wasn't the sellers fault, he posted it next day.  Simple mod but it really lifts the look of the bike IMO.
