I have a 2006 wr450 and wonder if there are any other kick start levers from different years that fit and are shorter. My Safari tank sits so low that I cant fold the kick start lever into the cut out for it. I can force it but its going to dig a hole in the tank.  They must have designed the tank on a 03/ 04 bike. My last resort is to get the pro tec kick start lever but its 130 bucks.

Thanks.

You may be able to fit one from the YZ250. Im very sure it will fit but I cant say for sure because I have never done it myself. I remember when the 400f first came out riders were putting them on to get the motor to spin faster in the kick.

do you know what is different?
I think it was the 04 + 05 WRs had smaller kick shaft diameters. like the size of the 250f. But I think it was your year where Yamaha changed the kick shaft to the larger diameter. And that is the size of the 400f and the 250 2t

Here is a picture of my problem. I ordered the pro tec kick start lever today since im leaving on a three day trip. I guess I could have put something under the tank to make it sit higher.

Here is a 2004 with the same tank. You can see it fits fine here.

I have a kicker that has been trimmed up to the first rib where it's hitting your tank. I bought it on eBay and that part was left out of the description
You are welcome to it if you like. 64maxpower@gmail.com . As far as shimming your tank up, If you can get any part of 6.6 gallons of fuel to sit lower then go for it
Where are you riding that you need that much fuel? I wish I was going there too

I put a YZ250 kick starter on my 99 YZ400 and it worked good. With short legs/inseam of 29" it helped greatly.

Can you just rotate the kick lever down a bit? Maybe to where the cutout on the tank for it is wider.

I tried to rotate and it didnt work. Moved to far forward. I guess the protec will be nice to have, Didnt want to spend that money but oh well.

The tank is not a 6.6 btw, thats the safari 4.1.
