Unabiker Radiator Guards Fit Ebay Radiators?

Recommended Posts

I need to replace one of my stock radiators and now want to get some guards.

I've settled on the Unabiker guards as they seem to be one of the best.

I wanted to get replacement radiators from Ebay as they are much cheaper than the stock one.  Only problem is I know they are thicker than stock.  Does anyone know how the Unabiker guards fit?  Do they allow for a thicker radiator?

Hopefully I can find something that would work with an Ebay radiator.  Otherwise I might have to find a used stocker.

Thanks,

Mike

mr2.....it can be a bit of a risk trying to find radiator guards that might fit the oversized chinese radiators.  I contacted Flatland Racing directly to ask about whether they fit the oversized chinese radiators before I bought them.  They were very helpful and said in their experience, most of the time they (the oversized chinese radiators fit, but there is no 100% guarantee since there are so many versions/manufacturers of the chinese radiators.  They also said they would refund me if they didnt fit (which they did - but it was a tight fit)

Here is what I bought for my son's '05 WR250F:

GPI Racing Radiator:

Flatland Racing Radiator Guard:

I realize yours is WR450F....but there are a whole lot of similarities between the WR250F and WR450F.  So far these GPI Racing radiators are holding up.  I also bought one of these GPI Racing radiators for a KX100 that has worked well too.

UThe design of the Flatland Racing radiator guard seems very stout.  I cant say anything good or bad about the Unabiker radiator guard as I dont have any experience with them.  Just wanted to share one piece of knowledge about the Flatland/GPI Racing combination.

I have the Unibker on my 09 WR450F and can confirm they fit tight. My radiators were tweeked a bit and I had a hell of a time getting them installed.

BUT, I also will say that the Unibiker guards are EXCELLENT at protecting your radiators. They connect the left and right radiators creating a very strong system. Much more than just protection for the fragile fins.

I thought they would be great from reading all the reviews, and I still like the design (FYI this is the NEW design, not the old) in how it creates a roughly triangular brace (most are more like parallelograms) and should be very strong by virtue of their geometry.  However, as I stated, the build quality leaves a LOT to be desired.  I haven't had to yet, but reinstalling the tank will be like a heavy handed game of tetris...with lots of little parts to loose.

It may be worth contacting Bulletproof Designs and seeing if their guards (they have them for the newer model listed) would also work on your bike, or if they would offer them but dont have them listed. I have seen these guards in action (on a big, heavy 'fat man's' KTM) and they live up to their name and are really top notch.

Dont' buy them.  They fit like hammered shit and are overpriced garbage.  They required trimming of the stockers to fit so I think oversized is out of the question.

Funny, mine fit perfectly and I didn't have to trim anything. Do you work for a competing brand or something? LOL

Stating the obvious here, but it's best to install guards BEFORE you crash and tweak the radiators. I made that mistake on my DRZ, down a couple times on the left side before I bought guards (Unabiker for both bikes) the right side went on no problem, the left side took some work. I'd hardly call that the fault of the guards though, they're not designed to fit bent radiators.

I installed the Unabikers on my WR before it ever hit the ground, went on perfectly. Oh and I would never dream of buying cheap Chinese knock off radiators, but that's just me. You get what you pay for.
