I need some opinions about going from a 99 yz400F to 02 YZ426F. I'm thinking about upgrading my 99 and just wanted to know should I go for the 02 or wait for the 03 ?

I went from a 99 to a 01 and like it.
I was hoping for a YZ450 in 02 but it did not happen. I was going to wait until 03 but I found out my forks were bent plus the bike was starting to nickel and dime me to death.

Anyway, back to the point, I like the 01 better than the 99.

DPW - The 426F has been running for 3 years (if you count 2002)now. I think they will be making some big changes in 2003.

If your 400F is still running good I'd rather wait for the 2003 model, you'll just kick your self if you buy the 2002 and the 2003 is a 450F monster :)

The biggest difference was more power, obviously.
Also, the stock suspension is pretty good.
The 01 will spin the rear tire more like a 2-stroke than my 400 did. That took a little getting used to. The front brake seems much better than on the 99, and I have not even done the fastline brake mod yet.

Other, than that, it feels pretty much like my 400.

The thing I liked better about the 99 was the fact that I had been riding it for 2 straight years. I had it dialed in perfectly for me. I knew exactly how it would react etc....Also, it felt like the 400 had more over rev in than the 426. The 426 just seems to sign off a little earlier.

Things are getting close on the 01, just need more time at the track.

I must say though, that I think that I am faster on the 01. Maybe beacause I get down the straights faster than on the 400, but I noticed my bud's were having a harder time getting around me than before.

Yeah, I have a feeling that I'll be kicking myself next model year. Better start saving my $$$, 'cause you know, if one bike is good, two is better! :D
