New bike 2013 WR450F

Recommended Posts

Congrats on the new bike. Lots of good info on this forum to help you get it sorted out.

My '12 is the best dirt machine I have ever owned & I have owned a bunch of 'em. Of course, I had to uncork it so it could breathe. I then chose to add Flexx bars, steering damper, hand guards & radiator braces, but that's all personal preference stuff and definitely made the bike fit my riding. During my last ride, I took time to tweak the suspension clickers and it made the whole package work great.

Enjoy and be safe!

Thanks guys..

Looking thru some posts I have decided I need to order some stuff...

Here's my list:

-GYTR comp ecu kit

-GYTR radiator supports

Things I need to find out:

-What size bars do I have so I can order the proper hand gaurds.

-which pipe to get

Don't know when I will be getting that stuff, I still have a lot of gear to buy. It will come tho.

Welcome and congrats on the new ride. Your bike has 1 1/8" ProTaper YZ high bend. AS for the muffler I had the GYTR/FMF 4.1 at first. I thought it was a tad loud but... Second day out I looped the bike and destroyed the muffler. Used the chance to get FMF Q4 Hex. Much better sound level (which is a big deal here in California) Have your ECU reprogramed to map 9 by your dealer. By all accounts here in this forum you will love it. As far as gear buy quality safety stuff. Good luck/ride safe

If you don't mind me asking, what did you end up with your suspension settings? I've been messinng with mind now but I don't think I have enough time on yet he bike yet and it's still stiff.

The suspension should break in after 4-5hrs of good trail riding. After that just mess with the compression at both ends until it feels good to what your riding at your pace. To me the stock settings are a little on the soft side and the front end rides a little low in the stroke but that's me. Example, my preference the front is 7 clicks harder and the rear 5 with the rebound slowed 2 clicks. If I go to do a dual sport type ride I like it at the stock setting with 2 clicks harder on the front and that seems to be pretty comfortable.

The first thing I did was check sag, and it was OK without any preload adjustment.  I didn't record the number of clicks but I softened the ride overall, and the shock got softened a little more than the fork.  I think that at race pace, my settings would be too soft.

New problem... Yesterday was the first day of good trail riding, I was able to get in about 4-5 hours of riding. The bike did great besides the fact that it overheated 3 times. coolant boiled over, and steam sprayed the ground until it would cool down. How are these things supposed to be great trail and enduro bikes if they can't handle the tight slower paced trails???

Have you installed the comp ECU yet? Stock the bike is incredibly lean.

Congrats man, Your gonna love it, I've had this stupid smile on since I got mine.  I just install some fork bleeders and they are the way to go. One thing I notice is going up and down in altitude to ride the mt single track, builds up the pressure pretty good in these forks. With these Motion Pro bleeders, problem is solved with ease.

Gonna have to agree with what others are saying in that it's the stock ECU... I've ridden some hot days on gnarly single track (1st gear working the clutch kinda stuff) and have not boiled my bike over yet. FWIW, I rode the comp ECU with the default (all zeros) map for a while, but never with the stock ECU. The bike really is quite lean bone stock.

Comp ECU ordered. Also gonna change the oil to synthetic, and change the coolant to Engine Ice. Hopefully that fixes my heat problems.

Other than that, my new helmet- HJC RPHA-X in solid white, is on the way, and my new Alpinestars Toucan gore tex boots are on the way.

Next week I will be ordering Cyrca Probend hand gaurds, one tooth smaller front sprocket, and possibly exhaust.

Nice! I just picked up my brand new '12 on Friday, rode about 100mi this weekend. The suspension was super stiff and like 18mm of preload in the rear, it was fully extended sitting on the ground. Softened everything up, set the sag and threw my leg over it. Will be getting the comp ECU soon as well.
